Il discorso sulle migrazioni / Der Migrationsdiskurs

Approcci linguistici, comparativi e interdisciplinari / Sprachwissenschaftliche, vergleichende und interdisziplinäre Perspektiven

Edited By Daniela Pietrini

Between 2015 and 2017, Europe faced the so-called “refugee crisis”, and Italy faced a new challenge, also from the legislation’s point of view. In the last years various laws have been introduced to manage the phenomenon of immigration, and all of them have one key element in common: the issue of security. For this reason the aim of the paper is to examine how the relationship between immigration and security is constructed in Italian political-institutional discourse, more precisely in the texts of parliamentary debates.

The research aims to analyze the parliamentary debates concerning the last two immigration laws: the decree law number 13 of 17 February 2017 on immigration, better known as the Minniti-Orlando Decree (discussion period: February-March 2017) and the Decree-Law of 4 October 2018, known as the Security and Immigration Decree (discussion period: October-November 2018). The corpus is composed of the transcribed texts of the sessions related to the two laws, of a total size of 360,000 words.

The innovative character of the work lies in the fact that currently there are a very few studies on...
