2 Competence profiles
25 2 Competence profiles (Christian Schottmann, EU-Geschäftsstelle) 2.1 Using the TRIFT-Matrix for competence profiles The Competence Matrix according to VQTS can be used for different purposes: 1. You can display on the Matrix your individual competence profile meaning you assign your different professional abilities to each respective competence area of the matrix and there to the appropriate step of competence development. 2. When a company starts a job advertisement it can display the require- ments with regards to the Competence Matrix – outlining in which competence area the new employee should perform at which develop- ment step. 2. The Matrix can also be used to cover more than individual or company related competence profiles: The content (related to a professional field) of a vocational programme can be represented also in the Matrix – showing up to which development step the respective programme leads their students. The general potential of the Matrix to map competence profiles lies in the fact that in all the (partner) countries, who have developed this competence matrix together, the meaning of the competence areas and the develop- ment steps are quite clear and transparent. It serves as a common language for professional competences and their development steps and therefore eases the comparison and also the matching of competence profiles. Whereas the understanding of individual or company related compe- tence profiles based on the Matrix is often sufficient for the respective purpose, the outlining of an entire vocational programme based on the Matrix is much more complicated.
