Summary

This book is written for an optional module within the scope of a European Master course of study: «European Perspectives on Social Inclusion». It reflects the situation of elderly people in Europe from empirical as well as theoretical points of view. Main life course transitions connected to old age are focused as well as concepts, theories and contemporary thinking among gerontologists. Special attention is given to recent societal trends that might influence aging and the elderly.
Dieses Buch ist ein Wahlmodul im Rahmen eines europäischen Masterstudienganges zu europäischen Perspektiven sozialer Inklusion. Es thematisiert die soziale Lage älterer Menschen und Bedingungen des Alterns aus empirischer und theoretischer Sicht. Wichtige Lebensereignisse und Statuspassagen im Alternsprozess werden ebenso behandelt wie grundlegende Theorien und Ansätze der Gerontologie. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Reflexion aktueller gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen und ihren Konsequenzen für den Alternsprozess und die Lage älterer Menschen.

Bengt Eriksson (Author) Jürgen Wolf (Author)

The Authors: Bengt Eriksson is a Ph.D. in social work and Senior Lecturer in Social Care at Karlstad University (Sweden). His research is mainly on evaluation of welfare operations, social care for the elderly, and their life conditions. Jürgen Wolf is Professor of Social Gerontology at the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal where he studies questions of aging and the life course, intergenerational relationships, social policy, and volunteering. Die Autoren: Bengt Eriksson ist Ph.D. in social work und Senior Lecturer in Social Care an der Universität Karlstad (Schweden). Seine Forschungsinteressen richten sich auf die Evaluation wohlfahrtsstaatlicher Programme, die Altenhilfe und die soziale Lage älterer Menschen. Jürgen Wolf, Dr. phil., ist Professor für Alternswissenschaft an der Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal mit den Forschungsschwerpunkten Lebenslauf- und Alternsforschung, Generationenbeziehungen, Sozialpolitik und bürgerschaftliches Engagement.
