Summary

This volume comprises nineteen contributions presented at the interdisciplinary conference Bulgarian Studies and Modern Humanities, held in Berlin in October 2024. Organised into five thematically diverse panels – Linguistics, Literary Studies, Translation/Cultural Transfer, Historiography as well as Artificial Intelligence – the papers explore the transdisciplinary intersections of these fields with Bulgarian Studies. The contributors challenge conventional boundaries of philology and prove how so-called “small philologies” such as Bulgarian Studies can make a remarkable contribution to methodological innovation within the humanities.

Biographical notes

Christian Voß (Volume editor) Lyubka Lipcheva-Prandzheva (Volume editor)

Christian Voß is a professor for South Slavic Studies at Humboldt University Berlin. Recent monographs Linguistic boundaries in the Greek-Macedonian contact zone in 20th century (2023) and The Glocalization of Southeast European Literatures in 21st century (2024). Lyubka Lipcheva-Prandzheva is a professor for Bulgarian Literature at Paisij Hilendarski University in Plovdiv. Recent monographs Being in Translation. Bulgarian Literature in German language 19th–20th century (2010), Classics, Expats and Emigrants. Literary identities and translation (2020).
