Summary

One of the two editors of this excellent volume on Riccoldo da Monte di Croce, Jensen, had already contributed a detailed article on this major Italian Dominican and missionary to the Near East in the important encyclopedia Trade, Travel, and Exploration in the Middle Ages, ed. John Block Friedman and Kristen Mossler Figg (2000), 520–21. We find more or less the same biographical and other information in the introduction to the current book, but the authors of the studies combined here, originally presented at a conference in Stockholm in 2017, examine a variety of special aspects pertaining to Riccoldo’s life and work, expanding and deepening our understanding of this major author about the Muslim world in the Eastern Mediterranean and neighboring territories.
