Summary

Center for Intercultural Competence Assessment (CICA) launched the Intercultural Competence Test (ICT) in 2023. However, research on the validity of this test remains limited. Therefore, this study investigates the validity of ICT based on Weir’s (2005) socio-cognitive framework, focusing on cognitive validity, context validity, and consequential validity. This study addresses three main research questions: (1) Does ICT reflect the cognitive processes involved in real intercultural interactions? (2) To what extent does the test content align with the exam syllabus? (3) Does ICT exert a positive washback effect on teaching and learning?
