Toxic Silence: Race, Black Gender Identity, and Addressing the Violence against Black Transgender Women in Houston by Dr. William T. Hoston has won the 2019 Lambda Literary Award in LGBTQ studies. The award was announced at the 31st Annual Lambda Literary Award Ceremony at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, in New York City.
Presented by the LAMBDA Literary Foundation, the Lambda Literary Awards (the “Lammys”) is the most prestigious LGBTQ literary event in the world. For over 30 years, the “Lammys” have honored the best of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender literature.
Published in 2018, Toxic Silence examines the patriarchal and heteronormative frames within the black community and larger American society that advances the toxic masculinity which violently castigates and threatens the collective embodiment of black transgender women in the USA.
