These "Studies" explore the periodical in its many forms, dating back to the beginning of printing. In addition to magazines and newspapers, we investigate broadsheets, folk calendars, almanacs, and other forms of the periodical. In this international and interdisciplinary series, local, regional, national and trans-European communication spaces and forms are also examined. The series considers historical developments (of a specific genre or an ensemble of several periodicals, etc.) and offers synchronous investigations into the media and communications of a given period. The "Studies" aim to contribute to the understanding of the emergence, establishment and diversification of the European print media reception and literary and media formats and techniques. Die „Studien" erforschen die vielfältigen Formen der periodisch publizierten Kommunikation seit Beginn des Buchdrucks. Neben Zeitschriften, Magazinen oder Zeitungen gehören hierzu auch ältere Formen wie Flugblätter, Volkskalender, Almanache etc. In der internationalen und interdisziplinären Reihe werden lokale, regionale, nationale oder transeuropäische Kommunikationsräume und -formen untersucht. Sie interessiert sich für historische Entwicklungen (einer spezifischen Gattung oder eines Ensembles mehrerer Periodika etc.) und bietet synchrone Untersuchungen zur medialen Kommunikation einer Epoche. Damit leisten die Studien einen Beitrag zur Erforschung der Entstehung, Etablierung und Diversifizierung der europäischen Printmedienrezeption sowie medialer und literarischer Formate und Techniken.

Sport plays a large role in modern societies and is often the subject of intense media coverage. An extensive lexicon has developed around sport, both within the individual sports themselves but also in the media, and new text types and forms of media coverage have emerged that have increasingly become the subject of academic studies. The series Sport, Language, Media is designed to serve as a forum for studies of sports language and media communication. Volumes in the series will primarily focus on German-speaking regions, but comparative studies on sports language, sports media coverage and fan communication in other countries and cultures, including non-European ones, are welcome. Research on the history of individual sports languages is also encouraged. In addition to football, the ‘king’ of sports, other disciplines may also be the subject of linguistic studies to be included in the series. Book proposals are welcome and may be sent to the series editors. Der Sport nimmt im Leben moderner Gesellschaften breiten Raum ein und ist Gegenstand vielfältiger Formen der medialen Berichterstattung. In den Sportarten selbst, aber auch in den Medien sind eine umfangreiche Lexik sowie neue Textsorten und mediale Formen entstanden, die wiederholt zum Thema wissenschaftlicher Studien wurden. Für das Thema Sportsprache und Medienkommunikation soll mit der Reihe Sport, Sprache, Medien ein eigenes Forum geschaffen werden. Der Fokus der Bände liegt in erster Linie auf dem deutschsprachigen Raum, doch auch vergleichende Studien zu Sportsprache, Sportberichterstattung und Fankommunikation in anderen, auch nicht-europäischen Ländern und Kulturen sowie zur Geschichte der jeweiligen Sportsprachen sind willkommen. Neben „König" Fußball sollen in der Reihe auch andere Sportarten in den linguistischen Blick genommen werden. Manuskriptvorschläge können an die Herausgeber gerichtet werden.

MeLiS. Medien – Literaturen – Sprachen in Anglistik/Amerikanistik, Germanistik und Romanistik

MeLiS is dedicated to media science, literature and linguistics from a cultural perspective. It also deals with issues derived from anthropology, the media, society, history and aesthetics. The cornerstone of MeLiS is an extended and descriptive interpretation of culture. The ability to decipher specific cultural derivatives and phenomena is dependent on time, space, the relevant context, and the disciplinary environment of the respective observer. MeLiS presents research approaches from various disciplines for discussion. A perspective that transcends trans-disciplinary or national-philological borders and promotes reflective dialogue among the academic disciplines is therefore expressly encouraged. MeLiS ist der kulturwissenschaftlichen Ausrichtung in den Medien-, Literatur- und Sprachwissenschaften verpflichtet. Dies schließt auch anthropologische, mediale, soziale, historische und ästhetische Fragestellungen ein. MeLiS legt einen erweiterten, deskriptiven Kulturbegriff zugrunde. Die Entschlüsselung spezifischer kultureller Erzeugnisse und Phänomene ist abhängig von Zeit, Raum, dem jeweiligen Kontext und dem disziplinären Umfeld des jeweiligen Betrachters. MeLiS stellt Forschungsansätze aus verschiedenen Fachdisziplinen zur Diskussion. Eine transdisziplinäre oder nationalphilologische Grenzen überschreitende Perspektive, die den reflektierten Dialog zwischen den Fachkulturen fördert, ist daher ausdrücklich erwünscht.

With the advent of digitization, communication with and between machines increasingly plays a role in interpersonal interactions. What will the future look like: will algorithms become more important than argumentation? Will societal discussions and decisions be replaced by big data analyses? What role will social media play, and how will communication work there? Will we still be telling stories in the future, while algorithms will be writing history? In short, how will information technology, social robots and artificial intelligence alter our existing understandings of communication in the emerging digital age? This book series aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for both empirical and theoretical discussions of the relationship between language and digital culture. Book proposals are welcome and may be sent to either the editorial board or the publisher. The languages of publication are German and English. Mit der Digitalisierung tritt neben die zwischenmenschliche Interaktion zunehmend die Kommunikation mit und zwischen Maschinen. Doch wie wird die Zukunft aussehen: Werden Algorithmen wichtiger sein als Argumente? Werden soziale Diskussionen und Entscheidungen durch Big Data-Analysen ersetzt? Welche Rolle werden die Social Media spielen, und wie wird dort kommuniziert werden? Werden wir uns zukünftig zwar noch Geschichten erzählen, Algorithmen aber faktisch Geschichte schreiben? Kurzum: Wie werden Kommunikationstechnologien, soziale Roboter und Künstliche Intelligenz unser bisheriges Verständnis von Kommunikation in einer beginnenden Digitalkultur verändern? Die wissenschaftliche Buchreihe möchte diesem Spannungsverhältnis von Sprache und Digitalkultur ein interdisziplinäres Forum der empirischen wie theoretischen Auseinandersetzung bieten. Women, Gender and Sexuality in German Literature and Culture welcomes proposals for monographs and rigorously edited essay collections focusing on the work of women and LGBTQ+ creators as well as the representation of women, gender and/or sexuality in literature, media and culture. The series contributes to efforts to broaden the German-language canon by publishing pioneering studies of relatively unknown writers, artists and filmmakers and cutting-edge assessments of more established figures. Studies of the history of women and LGBTQ+ subjects in German-speaking cultures, such as the participation of women in German, Austrian, Swiss and exile intellectual life and the struggle for equal rights, as well as historical considerations of gender and sexuality in German-speaking countries, are also encouraged. The series „Hispano-Americana" provides an international forum for publications from the field of Hispanic Studies, with a clear focus on the languages, literatures, media landscape and history of Latinamerica. The series welcomes both monographs and collective volumes in German, Spanish, Portuguese and English. In der Reihe „Hispano-Americana" erscheinen Monographien und Sammelbände zu aktuellen Forschungsthemen der internationalen Hispanistik, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf den Sprachen, Literaturen, Medienlandschaften und der Geschichte des lateinamerikanischen Kulturraums liegt. Social and cultural processes are eminently historical. Historical research and historical studies, themselves embedded in historical contexts, meet this fact by reconstructing historical processes and by making offers for their analysis and interpretation. A series of new phenomena and transformations are currently challenging the exploration of education and formation and their different institutionalized forms. Among them, the process of dense globalization, increasing cultural transfers and entanglements, the scarcity of natural resources, the accelerated pace of the transformation of media environments and novel forms of individualization are some of the most pressing. These phenomena and transformations pose new questions for historical research in education. The book series "Studia Educationis Historica" offers historical studies that address these challenges with traditional and innovative historical research methods. The series offers analyses on the history of education in different countries as well as comparative and international studies. German, English, and Spanish are the languages of the book series. Historicidad es una dimensión fundamental de los procesos sociales y culturales. La historiografía, una práctica integrada en tramas históricas determinadas, responde a este fenómeno en tanto reconstruye procesos históricos y genera ofertas de análisis e interpretación de los mismos. La investigación sobre educación, formación y sus diversas formas de institucionalización está siendo desafiada actualmente por fenómenos y procesos vinculados a la globalización densa, a las crecientes transferencias y conexiones culturales, a la escasez de recursos naturales, al cambio vertiginoso de los medios de comunicación y a nuevos procesos de individualización. The book series Estudios hispánicos en el contexto global. Hispanic Studies in the Global Context. Hispanistik im globalen Kontext offers an interdisciplinary approach to the Hispanistic world, combining Literary Studies, Media Studies, and Cultural Studies. The publications deal with the investigation and intercultural representation of contemporary culture and intellectual history by taking Iberian Studies, European Studies, Transatlantic and Global Studies into consideration. The major points of interest are the cultures of the Iberian Peninsula, their relation to each other, to Europe, to Latin America, and to cultural processes in a global context. We welcome monographs as well as multi-author volumes. Hispanic Studies in the Global Context is a peer-reviewed book series. La colección Estudios hispánicos en el contexto global. Hispanic Studies in the Global Context. Hispanistik im globalen Kontext propone un abordaje interdisciplinar al hispanismo, integrando los estudios literarios, de medios y culturales. Objeto de análisis serán las culturas hispánicas contemporáneas, su historia intelectual y las relaciones interculturales; se abarcarán por ello los estudios ibéricos, europeos, transatlánticos y globales. German Life and Civilization contributes to a critical understanding of Central European cultural history from medieval times to the present. Culture is here defined in the broadest sense, comprising expressions and representations in literature, music, performative and pictorial arts, and media, as well as political and sociohistorical developments in the texture of everyday life. Building on its strengths in GDR scholarship and political literature, the series also seeks to explore newer thematic trends such as human entanglements with the environment and natural world, and transnational and minority communities. The series aims to foster progressive and inclusive scholarship that aspires to a synthetic view of culture by crossing traditional disciplinary boundaries. This interdisciplinary and international book series aims to bring together current approaches in the environmental humanities (particularly in the fields of ecocriticism, environmental history, and environmental justice), with a focus on European contexts. It comprises thematic and theoretical studies which engage ecological issues, climate change, and the discourse of the Anthropocene, seeking to understand the forms of their representation across different media, cultures, and historical periods. „Studies in Literature, Culture, and the Environment" aim to connect the environmental humanities to the social and natural sciences and thus to contribute to the remediation of ecological problems.
