By bringing together diverse perspectives, the series seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex ways in which queer identities are constructed and represented in Romance Cultures. The series welcomes contributions from scholars and experts in the field of Queer Studies, Romance Literature-, Cultural and Media Studies, Fashion Studies and Opera Studies in Spanish, French, English or Italian.

The book series Estudios hispánicos en el contexto global. Hispanic Studies in the Global Context. Hispanistik im globalen Kontext offers an interdisciplinary approach to the Hispanistic world, combining Literary Studies, Media Studies, and Cultural Studies. The publications deal with the investigation and intercultural representation of contemporary culture and intellectual history by taking Iberian Studies, European Studies, Transatlantic and Global Studies into consideration. The major points of interest are the cultures of the Iberian Peninsula, their relation to each other, to Europe, to Latin America, and to cultural processes in a global context. We welcome monographs as well as multi-author volumes. Hispanic Studies in the Global Context is a peer-reviewed book series. La colección Estudios hispánicos en el contexto global. Hispanic Studies in the Global Context. Hispanistik im globalen Kontext propone un abordaje interdisciplinar al hispanismo, integrando los estudios literarios, de medios y culturales. Objeto de análisis serán las culturas hispánicas contemporáneas, su historia intelectual y las relaciones interculturales; se abarcarán por ello los estudios ibéricos, europeos, transatlánticos y globales. La colección concede especial atención a las culturas de la península ibérica, a sus relaciones mutuas, con Europa, Latinoamérica y procesos de alcance global. Se publicarán tanto monografías como volúmenes colectivos. Estudios hispánicos en el contexto global es una colección peer-reviewed. Die Reihe Estudios hispánicos en el contexto global. Hispanistik im globalen Kontext ist ein Publikationsforum für die interdisziplinäre literaturwissenschaftliche, medienwissenschaftliche und kulturwissenschaftliche Beschäftigung mit der hispanischen Welt. Die Publikationen widmen sich der Erforschung und interkulturellen Vermittlung der Gegenwartskultur sowie der Intellektuellen Geschichte unter Einbeziehung der Iberischen Studien, der Europäischen Studien, der transatlantischen und der globalen Studien. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf den Kulturen der iberischen Halbinsel, ihren Beziehungen untereinander, zu Europa, Lateinamerika und zu globalen kulturellen Prozessen. Willkommen sind sowohl Monographien als auch Sammelbände. Die Publikationen der Reihe Hispanistik im globalen Kontext werden einem unabhängigen Peer Review-Verfahren unterzogen.

Understanding Media Ecology

Media Ecology is a field of inquiry defined as ‘the study of media as environments’. Within this field, the term «medium» can be defined broadly to refer to any human technology or technique, code or symbol system, invention or innovation, system or environment. Media ecology scholarship typically focuses on how technology, symbolic form, and media relate to communication, consciousness, and culture – past, present and future. This series publishes research that furthers the formal development of media ecology as a field of study. Works in this series bring a media ecology approach to bear on specific topics of interest, including theoretical or philosophical investigations concerning the nature and effects of media or a specific medium. Further, this series also publishes books that examine new and emerging technologies and the contemporary media environment, as well as historical studies of media, technology, modes, and codes of communication. Scholarship regarding technique and the technological society is particularly welcome, as is scholarship on specific types of media and culture (e.g., oral and literate cultures, image, etc.). Publications may also consider specific aspects of culture (such as religion, politics, education, journalism, etc.); critical analyses of art and popular culture; and studies of how physical and symbolic environments function as media.

Social and cultural processes are eminently historical. Historical research and historical studies, themselves embedded in historical contexts, meet this fact by reconstructing historical processes and by making offers for their analysis and interpretation. A series of new phenomena and transformations are currently challenging the exploration of education and formation and their different institutionalized forms. Among them, the process of dense globalization, increasing cultural transfers and entanglements, the scarcity of natural resources, the accelerated pace of the transformation of media environments and novel forms of individualization are some of the most pressing. These phenomena and transformations pose new questions for historical research in education. The book series "Studia Educationis Historica" offers historical studies that address these challenges with traditional and innovative historical research methods. The series offers analyses on the history of education in different countries as well as comparative and international studies. German, English, and Spanish are the languages of the book series. Historicidad es una dimensión fundamental de los procesos sociales y culturales. La historiografía, una práctica integrada en tramas históricas determinadas, responde a este fenómeno en tanto reconstruye procesos históricos y genera ofertas de análisis e interpretación de los mismos. La investigación sobre educación, formación y sus diversas formas de institucionalización está siendo desafiada actualmente por fenómenos y procesos vinculados a la globalización densa, a las crecientes transferencias y conexiones culturales, a la escasez de recursos naturales, al cambio vertiginoso de los medios de comunicación y a nuevos procesos de individualización. Estos fenómenos y procesos plantean nuevas preguntas para la investigación en historia de la educación. La serie "Studia Educationis Historica" presenta indagaciones que lidian con estos desafíos tanto con herramientas historiográficas tradicionales como innovadoras. La serie incluye estudios sobre la historia de la educación de diversos países y trabajos comparados que pueden ser publicados en alemán, inglés o español. Historiographie trägt dieser Tatsache Rechnung, indem sie selbst in bestimmte historische Kontexte eingebettet historische Prozesse rekonstruiert und verschiedene Analyse- und Deutungsangebote macht. Die Erforschung von Erziehung und Bildung und der verschiedenen Formen ihrer Institutionalisierung ist heute zugleich von Phänomenen und Prozessen einer dichten Globalisierung, verstärkter kultureller Verschränkungen und Transfers, von Ressourcenknappheit, einem beschleunigten Medienwandel und neuartigen Prozessen der Individualisierung geprägt. Sie werfen immer wieder auch neue Fragen für die bildungshistorische Forschung auf. Die Reihe "Studia Educationis Historica" präsentiert Untersuchungen, die den genannten Herausforderungen sowohl mit herkömmlichen als auch mit neueren historiographischen Mitteln begegnen. Iberian and Latin American Studies: The Arts, Literature, and Identity

This series publishes titles from any area of Iberian and Latin American Studies that explore issues relating to questions of identity. The series accepts for publication scholarly monographs and collections of essays that aim to further our knowledge and understanding of the lives of individuals and communities who speak any of the languages of the Iberian Peninsula or Latin America. Ideas and concepts of identity can be explored at various levels, ranging from the individual to the national or international, and in different media. Proposals are welcome from researchers working in any cultural field, for example, the history of ideas, literature, performance, cinema, art and photography, and on a variety of issues, including nationhood, exile, memory, and gender. The series welcomes manuscripts in English or Spanish.

Wiener Iberoromanistische Studien

Die neue Reihe Wiener Iberoromanistische Studien, die von Univ.Prof. Dr. Kathrin Sartingen am Institut für Romanistik der Universität Wien seit 2011 herausgegeben wird, hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, neueste Erkenntnisfragen, Forschungsansätze und Methoden aus dem Wissenschaftsbereich der Iberoromanistik einem breiteren akademischen Publikum zu präsentieren. Im Vordergrund der Reihe stehen wissenschaftliche Monographien von (Jung-)Forscherinnen und Forschern der Universität Wien, aber auch international mit der Iberoromanistik Wien kooperierende Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler werden in Zukunft ihre aktuellen Fragestellungen und Forschungsergebnisse in den Wiener Iberoromanistischen Studien publizieren. Ein besonderer Mehrwert der neu geschaffenen Reihe ist es, sowohl ein breites Disziplinenspektrum (im Zentrum stehen Literatur-, Medien- und Kulturwissenschaft) als auch das Gesamtgebiet der Iberoromania abzudecken (Portugal und Spanien in Europa, Lateinamerika mit Schwerpunkt Brasilien, Afrika mit den zahlreichen ehemaligen portugiesischen Kolonien und Äquatorialguinea sowie Asien mit Goa und Indonesien).

Interdisciplinary Studies in Performance

The series aims at presenting innovative cross-disciplinary and intercultural research in performance practice and theory. Its mission is to expand and enrich performance studies with new research in theatre, film, dance, ritual and art. It also draws on queer and gender studies, anthropology, linguistics, archeaology, ethnography, sociology, history, media and political sciences, and even medicine and biology. The series focuses on promoting groundbreaking methodologies and new directions in studying performative culture by scrutinizing its transformative and transgressive aspects. The series Interdisciplinary Studies in Performance publishes in English and German. Volumes may be monographs as well as thematic collections of papers by scholars from Poland and from abroad.

Ibero-American Screens / Pantallas Iberoamericanas

Manuel Palacio, Miguel Fernández Labayen & Vicente Rodríguez Ortega This series approaches the Ibero-American audiovisual field—cinema and television—from an interdisciplinary perspective, with special emphasis on studies stemming from Media Studies and Cultural Studies. We are especially interested in those volumes that examine audiovisual production in the Iberian Peninsula and/or Latin America from a comparative perspective. In addition, the collection will include studies on the production, distribution and circulation of audiovisual artifacts in the digital era. Consequently, we include works that explore the relationship between audiovisual media and other fields of popular culture, such as music and sports. We accept both theoretical proposals on audiovisual media and historical approaches that scrutinize a specific period of cinema or television in one or several geopolitical spaces. The series includes volumes on industrials aspects and political economy and reflections on key aspects for the articulation of both national and transnational imaginaries, such as memory and representational templates. The featured volumes can be monographs or collections of essays by different authors, in Spanish or English. Esta colección se acerca al ámbito audiovisual iberoamericano—cine y televisión— desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar, con especial énfasis en estudios provenientes de la Comunicación y los Estudios Culturales. Son de especial interés aquellos volúmenes que examinen la producción audiovisual de la Península Ibérica y/o Latinoamérica desde una perspectiva comparativa. Además, son especialmente relevantes aquellos estudios que aborden las transformaciones en la producción, distribución y circulación de los artefactos audiovisuales en la era digital. Por consiguiente, se incluyen trabajos que exploren la relación del audiovisual con otros campos de la cultura popular, como la música y deportes. Se aceptan propuestas de carácter teórico sobre diversos ámbitos del audiovisual y volúmenes de cariz más histórico que abordan un periodo concreto del cine o televisión de uno o varios espacios geopolíticos. La colección incluye tanto volúmenes que se centren en aspectos industriales o de economía política como reflexiones sobre temas clave en la articulación de imaginarios colectivos nacionales o transnacionales como la memoria y la representación. Los libros pueden ser manuscritos monográficos o colecciones de ensayos de diversos autores, en español o inglés.

Signaturen der Gewalt / Signatures of Violence

Violence often takes the form of a catastrophic eruption. However, it also inscribes itself in different ways in the everyday life of society. Literary texts and media discourse are capable of analysing the relations between macro and micro levels of violence as forms of symbolic action. In the process, the critique of violence does not simply address the question of the representation of violence; the question of the violence of representation needs to be pursued as well. The series Signatures of Violence brings together innovative, transdisciplinary approaches to these difficult questions in the field of literary and media studies. Gewalt tritt oft in Form katastrophischer Eruptionen auf. Aber sie schreibt sich auch auf vielfältige Art und Weise in den gesellschaftlichen Alltag ein. Literarische und mediale Texte sind in der Lage, die Beziehungen zwischen Makro- und Mikroebenen von Gewalterscheinungen als symbolische Handlungen zu analysieren. Dabei wirft die Kritik der Gewalt nicht nur die Frage der Darstellung der Gewalt auf; auch der Frage nach der Gewalt der Darstellung muss nachgegangen werden. Die Reihe Signaturen der Gewalt bietet literatur- und medienwissenschaftlichen Studien einen Raum, welche innovative, transdisziplinäre Zugänge zu diesen schwierigen Fragen öffnen.
