Currents in Comparative Romance Languages and Literatures

The Currents in Comparative Romantic Languages and Literatures series was founded in 1987, and actively solicits book-length manuscripts (approximately 200-400 pages) which treat aspects of romance languages and literatures. Originally established for works dealing with two or more romance literatures, the series has broadened its horizons and now includes studies on themes within a single literature or between different literatures, civilizations, art, music, film and social movements, as well as comparative linguistics. Studies on individual writers with an influence on other literatures/civilizations are also welcome. This series entertains a variety of approaches and formats, provided the scholarship and methodology are appropriate.

This interdisciplinary and international book series aims to bring together current approaches in the environmental humanities (particularly in the fields of ecocriticism, environmental history, and environmental justice), with a focus on European contexts. It comprises thematic and theoretical studies which engage ecological issues, climate change, and the discourse of the Anthropocene, seeking to understand the forms of their representation across different media, cultures, and historical periods. „Studies in Literature, Culture, and the Environment" aim to connect the environmental humanities to the social and natural sciences and thus to contribute to the remediation of ecological problems. Studies on Themes and Motifs in Literature

The series is designed to advance the publication of research pertaining to themes and motifs in literature. The studies cover cross-cultural patterns as well as the entire range of national literatures. They trace the development and use of themes and motifs over extended periods, elucidate the significance of specific themes or motifs for the formation of period styles, and analyze the unique structural function of themes and motifs. By examining themes or motifs in the work of an author or period, the studies point to the impulses authors received from literary tradition, the choices made, and the creative transformation of the cultural heritage. The series will include publications of colloquia and theoretical studies that contribute to a greater understanding of literature.

The Francophone Cultures and Literatures series includes studies about the literature, culture, and civilization of all French-speaking countries except France, i.e., studies on the Francophone areas of Africa, the French-speaking islands in the Caribbean, as well as studies that deal with the French aspects in Canada. Cross-cultural studies between these geographic areas are also encouraged. The book-length manuscripts may be written in either English or French.

In der Reihe "Deutsche Literatur von den Anfängen bis 1700" erscheinen Ergebnisse germanistischer Forschung und Reflexion über einen Zeitraum, der ca. 1000 Jahre deutscher Literaturgeschichte umfasst, in denen das rhetorische und mentale Inventar an Sprach-, Bild-, und Denkmustern im Kontext einer intensiv gegenwärtigen christlichen Welt- und Erinnerungsschau sich gehalten und verfasst fand. Das Spektrum der Veröffentlichungen ist konzeptuell nicht beschränkt auf Interpretation und Analyse einzelner Literaturdenkmäler, sondern ist offen für Zeitdiagnose und Epochenprobleme, vor allem aber auch für die editorische Neuerschliessung von Texten, für methodische Neuansätze und interdisziplinäre Vorgehensweisen dieser Interpretation, auf deren Inanspruchnahme sowohl die mediävistische Altgermanistik als auch die mittlere Germanistik und die sich allmählich intensivierende Beschäftigung mit der beginnenden Neuzeit (16./17. Jahrhundert) angewiesen bleiben, sofern diese Zeiträume sachgerecht und historisch relevant behandelt werden sollen. Auf Grund der Diversität der Aufgabenstellungen, Forschungsrichtungen und methodischen Ansätze, die hier zur Sprache kommen mögen, sind die einzelnen Bände so konzipiert, dass sie ein Werk, eine Epoche oder eine systematische Fragestellung selbstständig erörternd angehen.

This series aims to publish monographs, editions or collections of papers based on recent research into modern French literature. It welcomes contributions from academics, researchers and writers worldwide and in British and Irish universities in particular. Modern French Identities focuses on the French and Francophone writing of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, whose formal experiments and revisions of genre have combined to create an entirely new set of literary forms, from the thematic autobiographies of Michel Leiris and Bernard Noël to the magic realism of French Caribbean writers. The idea that identities are constructed rather than found, and that the self is an area to explore rather than a given pretext, runs through much of modern French literature, from Proust, Gide, Apollinaire and Césaire to Barthes, Duras, Kristeva, Glissant, Germain and Roubaud. This series explores the turmoil in ideas and values expressed in the works of theorists like Lacan, Irigaray, Foucault, Fanon, Deleuze and Bourdieu and traces the impact of current theoretical approaches – such as gender and sexuality studies, de/coloniality, intersectionality, and ecocriticism – on the literary and cultural interpretation of the self. Dans le panorama de la recherche et, plus particulièrement, de l’hispanisme, un nouveau paradigme privilégiant la prise en considération des échanges et de la circulation de modèles s’affirme. Cette nouvelle perspective permet l’émergence d’un nouveau champ d’études centré sur les relations transatlantiques, transnationales et intercontinentales ; elle met l’accent sur les échanges, les migrations et les passages qui se déclinent de différentes façons entre les cultures des deux côtés de l’Atlantique, depuis plus de cinq siècles. Plus que le paquebot de ligne destiné à la traversée régulière entre l’Europe et l’Amérique, le titre de cette Collection « Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique » évoque le roman homonyme de Witold Gombrowicz – où apparait justement le trait d’union –, les déambulations du protagoniste entre deux mondes, ainsi que les rapprochements entre des lieux bien différents d’une même réalité (la Pologne, où Gombrowicz est né, et l’Argentine, lieu de son séjour prolongé). La Collection « Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique » se veut un espace d’édition ouvert aux travaux qui privilégient cette approche de la littérature comme lieu transculturel par excellence, lieu de dialogue et de controverse entre différents types de discours, lieu, enfin, de tous les possibles, où s’élaborent de nouvelles pratiques de pensée et de création pour donner du sens à l’en-dehors qui l’entoure. En el panorama actual de la investigación, especialmente en el campo del hispanismo, se afirma la presencia de un nuevo paradigma que toma en cuenta, privilegiándolos, los intercambios y la circulación de modelos. Esta nueva perspectiva ha permitido la emergencia de un nuevo campo de estudios, centrado en las relaciones trasatlánticas, transnacionales e inter-continentales, que subraya la importancia de los intercambios, migraciones y pasajes que se declinan de diferentes modos entre las culturas de los dos lados del Atlántico, desde hace más de cinco siglos. El título de esta Colección «Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique» se propone evocar, más allá del vapor de línea que hace la travesía regular entre Europa y América, la novela homónima de Witold Gombrowicz – donde aparece justamente el guión –, y las deambulaciones del protagonista entre dos mundos así como los acercamientos posibles entre dos lugares diferentes de una misma realidad (Polonia, donde Gombrowicz nació y Argentina, lugar donde reside de manera prolongada). La Collection «Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique» es un espacio de publicación de obras que se centren en este tipo de abordaje de la literatura como lugar transcultural por excelencia, lugar de diálogo y de controversia entre diferentes tipos de discurso, lugar de todos los posibles donde se elaboran nuevas prácticas de conocimiento y de creación para dar sentido a lo que está afuera y que, sin embargo, la literatura comprende. Die Reihe widmet sich den literarischen, filmischen und televisuellen Künsten der Romania in ihrer ganzen Vielfalt. Forschungen zum aktuellen Kino oder digitalen Fernsehen sind von daher ebenso willkommen wie Studien, die eine neue Perspektive auf kanonisierte literarische Texte früherer Epochen richten. In Zeiten der zunehmenden Zergliederung der Romania in Einzeldisziplinen, wie Hispanistik, Italianistik oder Galloromanistik will die Reihe gerade den Zusammenhalt der Romania betonen. So ergibt sich eine überaus breite Perspektive, die alle romanischen Kulturen umfasst.Die Reihe will das Desiderat transmedialer und epistemologischer Forschungen zu literarischen, filmischen und televisuellen Produkten der Romania erfüllen. Romania Viva se entiende como contribución inovadora a la ciencia de la literatura, cultura y de los medios románicos. La colección se dedica a los artes literarios, fílmicos y televisivos en toda su diversidad. En este sentido, se agradecen investigaciones sobre la literatura, el cine actual y la televisión digital al igual que estudios que se dirigen a una persepectiva nueva sobre textos literarios canonizados de épocas tempranas. En tiempos de una fragmentación creciente de la cultura de las lenguas romances en sus disciplinas individuales como la Hispanística, la Italianística o la Galoromanística, la colección intenta subrayar precisamente la unión de la cultura de las lenguas romances. De aquí resulta una perspectiva amplia, que considera todas la culturas románicas. La colección Romania Viva quiere cumplir con la desiderata de investigaciones transmediales y epistemológicas sobre productos literarios, fílmicos y televisivos de la cultura románica.

Aims and Scope As the annual peer-reviewed publication of the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA), Recherche littéraire / Literary Research is an Open Access journal published by Peter Lang. Its mission is to inform comparative literature scholars worldwide of recent contributions to the field. To that end, it publishes scholarly essays, review essays discussing recent research developments in particular sub-fields of the discipline, as well as reviews of books on comparative topics. Scholarly essays are submitted to a double-blind peer review. Submissions by early-career comparative literature scholars are strongly encouraged. Book reviews should be between 1500 and 2000 words. Edited volumes and journal issues will also be considered for review. Review essays about the state of the art, about several related books, or about a work of major significance for the field will be allowed to exceed 3500 words, excluding works cited and footnotes. Scholarly essays should count between 6000 and 8000 words (excluding works cited and footnotes) and follow the Chicago Style sheet (parenthetical bibliographical references in the body of the text as well as a final list of Works Cited). Scholarly essays should also be preceded by an abstract in English of approximately 250 words and by 6 to 7 keywords for indexation purposes. European Connections

European Connections: Studies in Comparative Literature, Intermediality and Aesthetics is a peer-reviewed series that publishes innovative research monographs, edited volumes as well as translations of key theoretical works. The series focuses on the literary and artistic relations that have shaped and continue to shape European cultures across national, linguistic and media boundaries, leading to vibrant new forms of artistic creation and aesthetic expression. It also wishes to explore relations with non-European cultures with a view to fostering more equitable models of cultural exchange and transfer. The series promotes comparative, intermedial and interdisciplinary approaches, whether studies of specific writers, filmmakers and artists; critical re-evaluations of historical periods (from the medieval to the ultra-contemporary) and movements; or wider theoretical reflections within the fields of comparative literature, intermediality studies and aesthetics. In light of the urgent need to revitalize the idea of Europe along new lines of thought, the series encourages research that explores the rich connections within European artistic and cultural production as well as the participation of European cultures in what the great philosopher of relation Édouard Glissant has called the Tout-monde.
