European Connections

European Connections: Studies in Comparative Literature, Intermediality and Aesthetics is a peer-reviewed series that publishes innovative research monographs, edited volumes as well as translations of key theoretical works. The series focuses on the literary and artistic relations that have shaped and continue to shape European cultures across national, linguistic and media boundaries, leading to vibrant new forms of artistic creation and aesthetic expression. It also wishes to explore relations with non-European cultures with a view to fostering more equitable models of cultural exchange and transfer. The series promotes comparative, intermedial and interdisciplinary approaches, whether studies of specific writers, filmmakers and artists; critical re-evaluations of historical periods (from the medieval to the ultra-contemporary) and movements; or wider theoretical reflections within the fields of comparative literature, intermediality studies and aesthetics. In light of the urgent need to revitalize the idea of Europe along new lines of thought, the series encourages research that explores the rich connections within European artistic and cultural production as well as the participation of European cultures in what the great philosopher of relation Édouard Glissant has called the Tout-monde. The aim of the series Worlds of East Asia of the Swiss Asia Society is to publish high-quality, representative work issuing from academic research on all aspects of East Asia. Contemporary Studies in Descriptive Linguistics

This series provides an outlet for academic monographs which offer a recent and original contribution to linguistics and which are within the descriptive tradition. While the monographs demonstrate their debt to contemporary linguistic thought, the series does not impose limitations in terms of methodology or genre, and does not support a particular linguistic school. Rather the series welcomes new and innovative research that contributes to furthering the understanding of the description of language. The topics of the monographs are scholarly and represent the cutting edge for their particular fields, but are also accessible to researchers outside the specific disciplines. Contemporary Studies in Descriptive Linguistics is based at the School of English, University of St Andrews. The Literary and Cultural Stylistics subseries aims to explore the intersection of descriptive linguistics with the disciplines of literature and culture. The techniques of stylistic analysis offer a way of approaching texts both literary and non-literary as well as all forms of cultural communication. The subseries offers a home for this research, where literary criticism meets linguistics and where cultural studies meets communication. It welcomes a wide range of data sets and methodologies, with the intention that every book in the subseries makes a new contribution to the disciplines that support them.

This series promotes critical inquiry into the relationship between the literary imagination and its cultural, intellectual or political contexts. The series encourages the investigation of the role of the literary imagination in cultural history and the interpretation of cultural history through literature, visual culture and the performing arts. Editors wish to include both text- and corpus-based research as well as works of theoretical concern. Monographs and collections of articles appearing in the series will focus primarily on English and American language, literature and culture, but studies with a comparative slant are also invited.

American Culture

American Culture is a series of publications specializing in literary and cultural studies. We welcome publications on literature, literary and cultural theory, history, theater, film and the arts. On the board of editors are members of the English/American language and history departments at the universities of Hamburg and Berlin (FU and HU). Die Reihe American Culture veröffentlicht Monographien aus der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und geht dabei insbesondere auf Literaturtheorie und Kulturwissenschaften ein. Weitere thematische Schwerpunkte der Reihe liegen in den Bereichen der Geschichts-, Kunst- sowie Theater- und Filmwissenschaft. Herausgegeben wird die Reihe von Professoren der Universität Hamburg und der Freien Universität Berlin sowie der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
