    In der Reihe "FLS - Foreign Language Studies" werden zentrale Studien aus dem Fachbereich der Anglistik/Amerikanistik veröffentlicht.   • Foreign Language Teaching in Europe

    Foreign Language Teaching in Europe is a series focusing on dissemination of ideas, experiences, and research on modern language pedagogy and language teacher education from sources throughout Europe and beyond. This series aspires to represent the field in its diversity and forms a forum for the expansion of contributions on modern language learning. Thus, this series’ ambition is to be of a high quality, and innovative, and to stimulate further research in the field. The editors of this series welcome submissions of monographs and edited volumes in the field of modern language pedagogy. Book proposals may be submitted to the series editor, Dr. Manuel Jiménez Raya (mjraya@ugr.es). Foreign Language Teaching in Europe ist eine Buchreihe, die fokussiert ist auf die Verbreitung von Ideen und Erfahrungen sowie auf Forschungsarbeiten zur Pädagogik im Bereich der Fremdsprachenvermittlung durch europäische und außereuropäische Beiträge. Diese Reihe bemüht sich, die Fremdsprachendidaktik in seiner Vielgestaltigkeit darzustellen und bildet ein Forum für die Verbreitung von Beiträgen zum Fremdsprachenlernen. Diese Reihe beansprucht, von hoher Qualität und innovativ zu sein und zu weiterer Forschung auf diesem Gebiet anzuregen. Die Herausgeber dieser Reihe begrüßen das Einreichen von Monographien und Sammelbänden auf dem Gebiet der Fremdsprachendidaktik. Vorschläge für Buchpublikationen sind zu richten an den Herausgeber Dr. Manuel Jiménez Raya (mjraya@ugr.es).

    The series «Work & Society» analyses the development of employment and social policies, as well as the strategies of the different social actors, both at national and European levels. It puts forward a multi-disciplinary approach – political, sociological, economic, legal and historical – in a bid for dialogue and complementarity. The series is not confined to the social field stricto sensu, but also aims to illustrate the indirect social impacts of economic and monetary policies. It endeavours to clarify social developments, from a comparative and a historical perspective, thus portraying the process of convergence and divergence in the diverse national societal contexts. The manner in which European integration impacts on employment and social policies constitutes the backbone of the analyses. La collection « Travail & Société » analyse les évolutions de la sphère du travail et des politiques sociales à travers l’étude des stratégies menées par les acteurs sociaux, tant sur le plan national qu’européen. Elle propose une approche pluridisciplinaire – politique, sociologique, économique, juridique et historique – dans un souci de dialogue et de complémentarité. La collection ne se limite pas à des études du champ social stricto sensu mais vise également à illustrer les impacts sociaux indirects des politiques économiques et monétaires. Elle s’attache à mettre en perspective les évolutions sociales, tant du point de vue historique que de manière comparative, en illustrant la convergence et la divergence dans les différents parcours nationaux. La dimension européenne, et plus particulièrement l’impact de l’intégration européenne, constitue un axe d’analyse privilégié.

  • The City as Place: Emotions, Experiences, and Meanings

    The purpose of this series is to examine the city as a lived place. Specifically, we are interested in the ways in which the city is invested with meaning through everyday lived experiences. The series is particularly interested in submissions that focus on the perceptual and felt dimensions of urban places through exploring the experiential, emotional, sensory, and affective dimensions that contribute to how people behave in, feel about, and move around in cities. Books in this series will interrogate the relationship between people and place through a focus on the diverse ways in which subjective and intimate feelings are fundamental constituents of the urban experience. We encourage authors to examine the city as a lived place from a range of different perspectives, and to be inclusive of individual and collective voices in the city to better understand the historical development and contemporary evolution of diverse urban settings. Some of the questions we seek to explore through the series include, but are not restricted to: How is the city experienced, by whom, and how does this change over time? Who shapes the experience of the city and for what reasons? How do individual and shared joy, fear, pride, nostalgia, disgust, or other emotions, shape the meanings attributed to urban spaces? How does the lived experience of, and emotional connections to, urban places inform the way particular spaces within cities are preserved and memorialized, or alternatively demolished and redeveloped? In what ways is our understanding of the lived experience of the city sharpened through the lens of comparative, transnational, and global approaches? The series seeks to examine the real and the imaginary, the representational and the non-representational, the historical and the contemporary, the remembered and the recreated in all historical periods including research on the twenty-first-century city. The series is open to work covering all geographic areas, and we encourage authors, where possible and relevant, to situate their studies in comparative, transnational, or global perspectives.   • Intercultural Studies and Foreign Language Learning

    Learning a foreign language facilitates the most intimate access one can get to the culture and society of another language community. The process of learning a foreign language always involves intercultural levels of engagement between the languages and cultures concerned. This process is also a long and arduous one which involves an enormous variety of factors. These factors are located on individual, socio-cultural and linguistic planes. They engage in a complex interplay between any elements of these more general planes and the concrete learning process of the learner. The series Intercultural Studies and Foreign Language Learning provides a forum for publishing research in this area. It publishes monographs, edited collections and volumes of primary material on any aspect of intercultural research. The series is not limited to the field of applied linguistics but also includes relevant research from linguistic anthropology, language learning pedagogy, translation studies and language philosophy.
