Die Forschungsberichte der Reihe C zielen darauf ab, umfangreiche und kontinuierliche Information über die vielfältigen Forschungsaktivitäten auf allen Gebieten der Germanistik zu übermitteln. Dem Benutzer sollen sie einen möglichst umfassenden Überblick über die aktuelle Diskussion geben. Die Berücksichtigung und Förderung von Beiträgen, die nicht aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum stammen, ist bei der Intention der Berichte im Rahmen des Jahrbuches für internationale Germanistik selbstverständlich.
