In an aim to promote an interdisciplinary and intercultural scientific dialog young graduates of diverse disciplines have tackled the task of intensive investigation into "cultures in dialogue". In their contributions they deal with questions about international and regional issues.

Prinzip Hoffnung?Überlebensstrategien von Menschen im Asylverfahren

Abstract This article is based on a qualitative study and focuses on living conditions and realities of two individuals undergoing Austrian asylum procedures. These two people who have been interviewed are currently facing precarious situations and are therefore seeking security. By means of visualization of one female participant’s prevailing survival strategies this paper tries to elicit two major aspects concerning her treatment in the course of her asylum procedure. On the one hand, large-scale flaws concerning the legal measures in terms of her treatment should be brought to public attention; on the other hand, the mere fact that all the people affected by actual asylum policies are human beings is essential. By the use of emphasizing asylum seekers’ individual acting against reprisals this paper intends to present these people as independently acting subjects. As a matter of fact, these individuals are neither described as perpetrators nor as victims but as people who are forced to fight for survival within the realm of Austrian asylum procedures.
