The fourth volume of the «Yearbook on History and Interpretation of Phenomenology: Vocations, Social Identities, Spirituality: Phenomenological Perspectives» presents variety of contemporary authors who explore the problem of vocation and closely related phenomena of personal, social, cultural (and transcultural) identity. They, altogether, point to its indispensable significance for our deeper understanding of the philosophical category of a «person», and a personal community, with all of its moral and axiological weight. The elucidation of our personal and social identities also unavoidably accompanies an ongoing, mutually respectful dialogue with other distinctive cultural life-worlds.

Patricio Mena Malet1 La Paradoja de la Vocación Abstract: This paper aims to investigate phenomenologically the paradox of vocation: this paradox means that vocation is received and at the same time decided. In order to reveal the paradox that constitutes vocation, in what follows, we will examine the call, and the “evential” character of the things themselves. A conceptual delimitation and differentiation of these two constitutive vocational aspects will yield a better understanding of the nature of subject, as it is self-given in the vocation. Thus the paper uncovers the true significance of this fundamental experience. Finally, this study attempts to understand vocation as a care-experience in the sense of restlessness, attention, and occupation. Keywords: Vocation, Care, Experience, Calling, Evential 1. Introducción En La vocation de la personne, Emmanuel Housset aboga por abandonar una com- prensión naturalista de la vocación que la reduce a un “fin asignado en nombre de un pretendido destino”2. Por el contrario, su abordaje fenomenológico debe permitir interrogarla en su “modo propio de evidencia” que no debe confundirse con el “de un oficio o aún el de una simple ocupación”3. Mas, es necesario indi- carlo, la vocación no siendo una simple ocupación, es una ocupación que antes que ser secundaria y lateral para la existencia humana, le es primordial y esencial.
