Emrah Gazi Candan Why do we still need so many Human Resources Professionals? 1. Preamble “According to the Old Testament, there was once an era where all people talked the same language. This unified people and made cooperation so easy that, they attempted to perform a common task to achieve one thing that seemed impossible: They intended to build a tower in Babylon high enough to allow them to reach heaven. In front of such an unforgivable arrogance attempt, God did not delay sending his wrath upon the reckless sinners. He spared their lives, but not their languages. As stated in the Testament, the only thing God needed to do in order to prevent the attempt of infidels, was to make their languages different, so that they would not understand each other” (Guillen: 2012, p. 1). In our day, human resources management is becoming more and more impor- tant for establishments with each passing day. Considering the historical process of human resources, it can be seen that the lower level, as a department, in time became a supporting department and then gained a strategic partner status. Hu- man resources management today has the feature of being the common language for human resources professionals throughout the world. Although financing, accounting, sales, marketing, and many processes show differences even in the same country and region for various sectors and companies, human resources management is able to bring all human resources professionals together, regard- less of the establishments’ origins and sectors.
