Victorian and Edwardian Studies

The series focuses primarily on subjects, works and authors of Victorian and Edwardian literature in light of an interpretation of the lines of epistemic continuities/discontinuities involved in the historical notion of “the long nineteenth-century” (1789–1914). While promoting new critical perspectives in the field of Victorian textual production (from literature to visual arts, from scientific works to popular press), the series also aims to publish interdisciplinary works which consider the ideological and sociocultural implications of the radical transformation in Victorian society. The publications in the series originate mainly from research work conducted at the CUSVE (Centre for Victorian and Edwardian Studies – University of Pescara, Italy) but the series is open to contributions originating outside the CUSVE. It publishes monographs, collections of essays, conference proceedings and doctoral dissertations. The language of publications is both English and Italian.

Yourcenar

Nobody disputes the modern relevance of Marguerite Yourcenar’s work. Back in 1981, when she was the first woman to be elected to the Académie Française, her work was received enthusiastically, rather deferentially even; there was something of an aura surrounding it with the media attention her election attracted. But this time is now past and more recent research activity has taken a new turn, with critical attention focusing on Yourcenar’s roots in her own century. The study of traditional major themes – death, the sacred, nature, history etc. – has given way to the study of more comparative, theoretical issues such as the relationship between text and images, and more incisive issues such as ecology, gender, political activism etc. And her work seems to expand accordingly, offering up a seemingly inexhaustible supply of subject matter, not only through her novels but also through her novellas, her many essays, plays, letters and so on. The primary objective of the «Yourcenar» series is to publish monographs, collected volumes, conference proceedings and volumes resulting from doctoral research which will give our intended public of academics and Yourcenar devotees a regularly updated idea of the state of the art in the field. Cross-disciplinary approaches are encouraged. The intention is to publish two volumes per year, in either English or French. The collection is directed by Francesca Counihan (Maynooth University) and Bérengère Deprez (Université catholique de Louvain). L’actualité de l’œuvre de Marguerite Yourcenar ne fait aucun doute. Passé un moment de réception enthousiaste et plutôt déférente de ses écrits, auréolés et très médiatisés par son admission comme première femme à l’Académie française en 1981, il semble que la recherche ait pris un virage vers la critique attentive de l’enracinement de l’écrivaine dans son siècle. À l’examen des grands thèmes comme la mort, le sacré, la nature, l’histoire, etc., ont succédé des questions plus comparatistes, plus théoriques telles le rapport texte/image ou plus incisives telles l’écologie, la dimension de genre, l’engagement politique, etc. Et l’œuvre répond présente : la matière semble inépuisable, non seulement les romans mais les nouvelles, les nombreux essais, le théâtre, la correspondance, etc. La collection « Yourcenar » a pour ambition de présenter à un public universitaire académique ou non, ainsi qu’aux nombreux passionnés de l’œuvre de Marguerite Yourcenar, un état des lieux régulier de la recherche, par la publication de monographies, de volumes collectifs, d’actes de colloques et d’essais issus de thèses de doctorat. Elle encourage les points de vue transdisciplinaires. L’objectif de publication est de deux volumes par an, en français ou en anglais. The series “Peregre. Nuova Serie” was founded at the Dipartimento di Letterature moderne e Studi filologico-linguistici at the University of Urbino (Italy) – now part of the Dipartimento di Studi internazionali. Storia, Lingue, Culture in 2009. The series aims at providing a forum for discussions of the department’s interdisciplinary approaches. Bochumer Schriften zum Steuerrecht

Die Bochumer Schriften zum Steuerrecht werden seit 2004 von Prof. Dr. Roman Seer herausgegeben. Prof. Dr. Seer ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Steuerrecht und Direktor des Forschungsinstituts für Steuerrecht und Steuervollzug an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum. In dem Forschungsinstitut werden Dissertationen, Habilitationen und andere wissenschaftliche Vorhaben persönlich betreut und gebündelt. Die Erkenntnisse der Arbeiten finden überwiegend Eingang diese Schriftenreihe. Neben rechtsvergleichenden Arbeiten im internationalen Kontext steht dabei insbesondere die Wechselbezüglichkeit zwischen dem materiellen Steuerrecht einerseits und dessen Vollzug in der Praxis andererseits im Fokus. America Romana

Im Wintersemester 2009/2010 wurde an der Universität Trier eine neue Forschungseinrichtung mit dem Namen America Romana Centrum (ARC) gegründet, die der auf Amerika zentrierten romanistischen Forschung und Lehre einen institutionellen Rahmen gibt. Ziel des ARC ist es, die Tradition der sprachenübergreifenden Romanistik, die für Europa so beeindruckende Resultate geliefert hat, auf Amerika anzuwenden: Das Französische in Kanada, der Karibik und in Südamerika (Guyana), das Spanische als Staatssprache von 19 Ländern zwischen dem Rio Grande und Feuerland sowie das Portugiesische in Brasilien sollen ebenso wie franko- und ibero-kreolische Varianten bzw. die nach Amerika verpflanzten Ausprägungen des Italienischen (und neuerdings des Rumänischen) im Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit stehen. Die interdisziplinären Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Raum America Romana fokussieren gegenseitige Beeinflussungen, aber auch Abgrenzungen sowie Berührungen mit anderen Sprachen, Literaturen und Kulturen.

Die Reihe „Studien zur Medien- und Kulturlinguistik“ widmet sich dem Sprachgebrauch in Medien, der Konstituierung und Verknüpfung von Online- und Offline-Diskursen sowie den multimodalen Textsorten und kommunikativen Praktiken. Wichtige Forschungsaspekte sind dabei die Intermedialität, die Wissensetablierung und -vermittlung sowie Funktionalität und Einflüsse von Text- und Diskurshandlungen auf die Öffentlichkeit. Darüber hinaus werden in die Reihe auch kulturlinguistische Arbeiten aufgenommen, die aus intra- und interkultureller Sicht ein bestimmtes Spektrum von Sprachhandlungen innerhalb von Kulturgemeinschaft(en) thematisieren.

Intradisziplinäre Forschung zur Compliance

Gegenstand dieser Schriftenreihe sind wirtschaftsrechtliche Forschungsarbeiten, die in wissenschaftlicher Hinsicht intradisziplinär angelegt und auf praxisrelevante Fragestellungen der „Compliance“ ausgerichtet sind. Es werden Problemkomplexe aus dem Blickwinkel verschiedener juristischer Teildisziplinen miteinander abgeglichen, um intradisziplinäre Wertungsunterschiede aufzudecken und diese – soweit möglich – aufzulösen. Diese Erkenntnisinteresse trägt die Einbindung der Rechtspraxis in den Entstehungsprozess der Arbeiten in besonderer Weise Rechnung. Der regelmäßige Austausch mit Rechtspraktikern soll gewährleisten, dass vor allem praktisch relevante Frage aufgegriffen werden, die noch keine Klärung durch Rechtsprechung und Wissenschaft erfahren haben.

Berliner Beiträge zur Literatur- und Kulturgeschichte

Die Reihe Berliner Beiträge zur Literatur- und Kulturgeschichte bietet die Möglichkeit zur Veröffentlichung von Monographien, Aufsatzbänden oder Einzeluntersuchungen aus dem Gesamtgebiet der deutschsprachigen Literatur- und Kulturgeschichte und versteht sich als Forum unterschiedlicher methodischer und theoretischer Zugänge. Überdurchschnittliche Arbeiten zu einzelnen Autoren/Autorinnen, zu Gattungen und Sujets und zu übergreifenden thematischen Bereichen sind gleichermassen willkommen. Trotz des Reihentitels ist ein thematischer Bezug der Arbeiten auf Berlin keineswegs zwingend.

For several decades now, our attention has been drawn to expanding agricultural output and the proliferation of powerful food companies. At the same time, in the process of European integration, the adoption of the Codex Alimentarius (1963), the Food Law (2002), and the recognition of PGIs for many products have contributed to the creation of a common European "food space". Today, these systems of supply and distribution have between them given Europeans quite varied dietary possibilities. This situation stems from various developments, linking the economic to the technical and amounting to a long-term trend. Cultural issues bear upon this, whether culinary transmission from generation to generation or the increasingly diverse catering sector, and political decisions also contribute through the establishment of standards and regulations. Hence, traditions and ruptures, innovations and continuities are permanently unsettling the European diet. Using original sources, doctoral theses, conference papers, monographs and testimonies, this series examines historical developments at the national scale and also, more generally, in a transnational perspective. The series hopes to make a significant contribution to understanding the processes of food innovation, which are powerful factors of difference and identity in contemporary Europe. All volumes in this series passed a selection process that included double blind peer-review. Le développement des rendements agricoles et la croissance de puissantes industries agroalimentaires ont focalisé l’attention depuis plusieurs décennies. Dans le processus de construction européenne, l’adoption du Codex alimentarius (1963), la Food law (2002) et la reconnaissance des IGP sur de nombreux produits contribuent désormais à unifier un espace alimentaire communautaire. Les Européens disposent de moyens d’approvisionnement et de distribution variés pour constituer leur alimentation. Cette situation procède d’évolutions plurielles, liant l’économique et le technique, et s’inscrit en fait dans la longue durée. Des enjeux culturels y sont associés, qu’il s’agisse de transmissions culinaires générationnelles ou de l’offre de restauration très diversifiée. Des choix politiques y contribuent également, par la mise en place de normalisations et de règlements. Traditions et ruptures, nouveautés et continuités bouleversent en permanence l’alimentation des Européens. Par des recueils de sources, des thèses, des actes de colloques, des monographies érudites et des témoignages, cette collection interroge les évolutions historiques et sociétales, par pays ou plus globalement dans une perspective transnationale. Elle souhaite apporter une connaissance sur des processus d’innovations alimentaires qui constituent de puissants facteurs de différences et d’identités mêlées de l’Europe contemporaine. Tous les volumes de cette collection sont publiés après double révision à l'aveugle par des pairs.
