    « La Cité européenne » est une collection interdisciplinaire ayant pour objet l’étude de l’intégration européenne au sens large. Tout en mettant l’accent sur l’Union européenne, elle encourage par ailleurs la publication d’ouvrages ayant une perspective pan-européenne, ainsi que des études comparatives, notamment sur d’autres formes d’intégration dans le monde. Les disciplines principales de la collection sont les sciences politiques et économiques, le droit et l’histoire. Although mostly focusing on the European Union, it also encourages the publication of books addressing the wider, pan-European context, as well as comparative work, including on other forms of regional integration on the world scene. The core disciplines are politics, economics, law, and history. While being committed to high academic standards, «European Policy» seeks to be accessible to a wide readership, including policy-makers and practitioners, and to stimulate a debate on European issues. Submissions will normally undergo a thorough peer-review process.     This series welcomes and encourages the dialogue between demography and family studies to revitalize social history as well as sociology and population studies. An international network of scholars based at the Laboratory of Demography and Family Studies of the University of Geneva has initiated an open-minded series that seeks to reflect the latest developments in research. The collection emphasizes comparative and international perspectives, as well as interdisciplinary approaches drawing from history, economics, statistics, sociology, geography, demography, and cultural anthropology. Innovative methodologies for both qualitative and quantitative analysis which allow authors to reformulate old problems and ask new questions are particular welcome. The series publishes both individual and collective volumes. The first group encompasses case studies or monographs coming from the Swiss or the international scientific world, including the best Ph.D. dissertations. The second group refers to collective volumes organized around a topic emerging from a scientific debate, with contributions from various disciplinary fields and/or geographic horizons.     Debates about religion, education and values are more central to contemporary society than ever before. The challenges posed by the interaction between these different spheres will continue to increase as the effects of globalization and cultural pluralization impact on educational settings.     This interdisciplinary book series showcases dynamic, innovative research on contemporary and historical Australian culture. It aims to foster interventions in established debates on Australia as well as opening up new areas of enquiry that reflect the diversity of interests in the scholarly community. The series includes research in a range of fields across the humanities and social sciences, such as history, literature, media, philosophy, cultural studies, gender studies and politics. Proposals are encouraged in areas such as Indigenous studies, critical race and whiteness studies, women'Â’s studies, studies in colonialism and coloniality, multiculturalism, the experimental humanities and ecocriticism.     With its focus on new critical, theoretical, and cultural developments in contemporary film studies, this series encourages lively analytical debate within an innovative, multidisciplinary, and transnational approach to European cinema. It aims to create an expansive sense of where the borders of European cinema may lie and to explore its interactions and exchanges within and between regional and national spaces, taking into account diverse audiences and institutions. The series reflects the range and depth of European cinema, while also attempting to revise and extend its importance within the development of cinema studies in the coming decades. Of particular interest is how European cinema may respond to the challenges of digital distribution and the new intermedial landscape, evolving issues in transnational funding and production, the significance of film festival culture, and questions of multivocality and pluralism at a time of global crisis. The impact of all such developments upon European culture and identity will be of fundamental interest in the coming decades and the New Studies in European Cinema series makes a key contribution to this debate. Proposals for monographs and edited collections are welcome. All proposals and manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer review assessment prior to publication.

    "Europe of Cultures" is a series of studies, monographs, stories, research projects, reports on conferences and debates devoted to the complexities and changing realities in European societies. It bridges the past with the future at the cross road of challenges and opportunities of the transformation of European societies. The management of changes in societies refers to the interconnection of various dimensions and levels of policy-making impacting on economic, social, political, democratic, communication, philosophical, artistic, religious as well as ethical traditions and behaviour. As an editorial project the series is structured along two interconnected and complementary sub-series: i.e. the "(Europe of) Dialogues" series and the "(Europe of) Living Stories". The sub-series "(Europe of) Dialogues" mainly deals with (cultural) diversities, identity and citizenship building in Europe as well as with the relevant multi-level governance and communication structures in the transformation of European societies. Europe is a laboratory for understanding this multi- and intercultural reality. The purpose is to contribute to a better understanding and communication of the changes taking place by looking at the European societies in general, and the specificities of different national, regional and local cultures and communities in a framework of dialogues. The series presents interdisciplinary and critical views of value-driven and policy-oriented reflections. Moreover, it offers new insights into understanding how to manage, value and communicate cultural diversity, identity and citizenship. It also wants to contribute to the development of new ways of "living together", in which cultures and communities are perceived as binding forces in creative society building. The sub-series "(Europe of) Living Stories" (the former "Mémoires de l’Europe en devenir", Director Gabriel Fragnière) is devoted to inspiring narratives for a broad public with a view to contribute to a better understanding, communication and contextualisation of the newly emerging Europe. It mainly focusses on stories, memories and testimonies of persons, events, institutions and issues that have transformed mentalities, fostered European awareness and finally shaped Europe’s future. These stories serve as important references and communication tools for future developments of Europe in the world. This collection wants to be open and diverse, original and dynamic in its content, method and pedagogy faithful to Europe’s role and reference in the globalising world. "Europe des cultures" est une collection d'études, de monographies, d’essais, de récits, de recherches et de compte-rendu de conférences et de débats consacrés à la complexité et l'évolution des réalités dans les sociétés européennes. Elle relie passé et futur au carrefour des défis et opportunités de la transformation des sociétés européennes. L’étude des changements dans les sociétés se réfère à l'interconnexion des différentes dimensions et niveaux de l'élaboration des politiques, incluant les traditions et comportements économiques, sociaux, politiques, démocratiques, communication, philosophiques, artistiques, religieuses ainsi qu’éthiques.     The aim of this series is to study diversity by privileging an interdisciplinary approach, through political, legal, cultural and social frameworks. The proposed method of inquiry will be to appeal, at once, to the fields of political philosophy, law, political science, history and sociology. In a period characterized by the increasing diversity of contemporary societies, the authors published in this series will explore avenues for the accommodation and management of pluralism and identity. Such studies will not be limited to assessments of federal states, but will include states that are on the path to federalization as well as non-federal states. Serious efforts will be undertaken to enrich our comprehension of so-called ‘nations without states’, most notably Catalonia, Scotland, Flanders and Quebec. A point of emphasis will also be placed on extracting lessons from experiences with civil law relative to those cases marked by the common law tradition. Monist and competing models will be compared in order to assess the relative capacity of each model to provide responses to the question of political instability, while pursuing the quest for justice in minority societies. The series also addresses the place of cities in the management of diversity, as well as the question of migration more generally and the issue of communities characterized by overlapping and hybrid identities. A profound sensitivity to historical narratives is also expected to enrich the proposed scientific approach. Finally, the works published in this series will reveal a common aspiration to advance social and political debates without privileging any particular school of thought. Cette collection cherche à étudier la diversité sous les angles politique, juridique, culturel et social en privilégiant le prisme de l’interdisciplinarité. La démarche scientifique proposée fait appel à la fois à la philosophie politique, au droit, à la science politique, à l’histoire, de même qu’à la sociologie. Au moment où les sociétés sont de plus en plus traversées par la diversité, les auteurs publiés dans cette collection exploreront des avenues en vue de gérer le pluralisme communautaire et identitaire. Sont mis à l’étude tout aussi bien les pays fédéraux et les pays en voie de fédéralisation que les pays non fédéraux. Des efforts importants seront consentis afin d’enrichir notre compréhension des nations dites « sans État » – pensons à la Catalogne, à l’Écosse, à la Flandre, au Pays basque et au Québec. Une volonté affirmée de mettre en parallèle les enseignements tirés des expériences civilistes et de celles propres au droit coutumier sera au rendez-vous. Les modèles monistes et concurrents seront mis dos à dos afin de saisir la capacité propre à chacun de fournir des réponses à l’instabilité politique tout en poursuivant la quête de justice pour les sociétés minoritaires. La place des métropoles au chapitre de la gestion de la diversité retiendra notre attention de même que les questions de migration des populations et du métissage communautaire. Une sensibilité à la trame historique viendra enrichir la démarche scientifique proposée.   • Regional Integration and Social Cohesion

    «Regional Integration and Social Cohesion» (RISC) is an interdisciplinary and multilingual (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese) series that examines the human and environmental impacts of regional integration, defined legally/politically (supranationalism), economically (globalization), socially (identity), and geographically (borders). The series aims to link global analysis of issues associated with social cohesion, such as market shifts, immigration, environmental risk and the deterioration of natural resources, human rights, violence and security, etc., with national and subnational studies that focus on political decision-making, the non-governmental sector and social participation in public debates, economic transformations, social marginalization, identity, etc. Thus, the series aims to combine the international, national and subnational arenas of politics in thematically-oriented research. While proposed case studies are welcome, the works presented in this series from all social science disciplines, are predominantly based on the comparative method. Studies that compare across geographic regions, defined continentally, are of particular interest. In addition to the scientific focus described above, this series aims to connect theoretical analysis of questions related to social cohesion with policy-based research. In doing so, it examines the role of political actors at different levels of regional integration processes and it studies citizen responses to changing opportunity structures in the economic, social and political spheres. Thus, the series attempts to shed light on contemporary shifts in the uses and types of power in policy-making processes. The issue of changes in how policies are being made is linked to: «who affects policy-making?» and «what impact do policies have in social and economic arenas?» « Intégration régionale et cohésion sociale » (RISC) est une collection interdisciplinaire et multilingue qui étudie les impacts humains et environnementaux qu’exerce l’intégration régionale, telle que définie légalement/politiquement (supranationalisme), économiquement (mondialisation), socialement (identité) et géographiquement (frontières). La collection cherche à mettre en relation d’une part l’analyse globale de problématiques associées à la cohésion sociale – les mouvements des marchés économiques, l’immigration, les enjeux écologiques, la préservation des ressources naturelles, les droits de l’homme, la violence et la sécurité, etc. – et d’autre part les études nationales et régionales/locales qui se centrent sur la prise de décision politique, le secteur non gouvernemental, la participation dans les débats publics, les transformations économiques, la marginalisation sociale, l’identité, etc. La collection cherche dès lors à combiner international, national et régional/local dans une perspective thématique. Si les études de cas y sont les bienvenues, on tentera cependant de privilégier les analyses comparatistes, dans le champ des sciences humaines, toutes disciplines confondues. Une attention toute particulière sera accordée aux études établissant des comparaisons entre continents. En outre, la collection souhaite relier l’analyse théorique de questions liées à la cohésion sociale à une recherche de type politique. Elle examine ainsi le rôle des acteurs politiques aux différents niveaux de l’intégration régionale et elle étudie la réaction des citoyens face aux mutations des structures économiques, sociales et politiques. RISC met dès lors en lumière les tendances contemporaines des usages et des types de pouvoir à l’œuvre dans les processus de prise de décision. La question de savoir comment les politiques sont élaborées est liée aux questions suivantes : « Qui peut influencer les politiques ? » et « quel est l’impact des politiques sur la scène politique et économique ? ».

    Methodology and methods constitute the heart of social sciences and the mark of any academic endeavour. In recent years, the development of participatory methods broadly understood has led to the renewal of our methodological tools and techniques through the introduction into the research design of the citizens, the experts, the decision makers both private and public. These new methods deserve to be studied not only from an epistemological and a methodological perspective but also in their real-life applications. This series, «Méthodes participatives appliquées/Applied participatory methods», aims at fostering the debates related to the fast-growing development, renewal, and application of the participatory methods. It will be of interest to a wide readership: scholars in human and social sciences, undergraduate and graduate students, private and public decision makers, civil servants, journalists, politicians as well as citizens interested in this applied participatory perspective. This series publishes, in English or in French, both individual and collective works such as monographs (including theses), collections of articles, conference proceedings, textbooks and collections of texts for students and bibliographies. La méthodologie et les méthodes constituent indéniablement le cœur des sciences sociales et la marque de leur scientificité. Depuis plusieurs années, le développement de méthodes participatives entendues au sens large encourage le renouvellement des outils méthodologiques propres aux sciences sociales en intégrant plus directement les citoyens, les « experts » et les décideurs publics ou privés dans le dispositif de recherche. Ces nouvelles méthodes méritent d’être étudiées aussi bien épistémologiquement que méthodologiquement mais également dans leurs applications concrètes. Bi- and plurilingual – as well as migratory contexts – are particularly suitable for inquiries regarding belonging.     This series publishes monographs, edited collections and reprints of classic studies on the history and the contemporary role of sport, primarily in Britain and Europe but including other parts of the world. The editors wish to make available the very best of recent doctoral and post-doctoral work in the subject area whilst also looking to established scholars for major new books or collections of articles. Although the focus of the series is historical, it also embraces more contemporary interdisciplinary studies of the role of sport as a local, national and global phenomenon. The series includes both new and established areas of research into the class, age and gender dimensions of sport as well as its political and ideological aspects, including nationalism, imperialism and post-colonialism. The editors wish to encourage economic and transnational studies of sport as well as new work on ethnicity, sports literature and material culture. The series will also reflect on the significance for the writing of sports history of new cultural and theoretical debates. Genuinely international in approach, the series also seeks to publish English translations of some of the most outstanding scholarship on the history and culture of sport in Europe, South America and beyond. The series aims to act as a focus for the historical study of sport internationally and facilitate interdisciplinary debate on the subject.

    The series exists to foster critical debate and to publish academic research in the field of cultural management and cultural policy as well as to open up a forum for discussions and debate on the topics of cultural management and cultural policy among scholars, educators, policy makers and cultural managers. It is also intended to provide a reference tool for education and lifelong learning on cultural management and cultural policies. It is becoming more and more evident that education in cultural management and cultural policy cannot and should not be separated from research and being conducted in the field. Since its creation, ENCATC has recognized this need and was always very active in pursuing, publishing, presenting, and disseminating research in arts and cultural management and cultural policy to strengthen the understanding of cultural management and cultural policy issues. Created in 1992, ENCATC is the «European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centers». It is a membership NGO gathering over 100 Higher Educational Institutions and cultural organisations in 40 countries. It holds the status of official partner of UNESCO and of observer to the Steering Committee for Culture of the Council of Europe.

Three ideas guide this series: (1) The role of religion in the making of public policy has become and is likely to remain a subject of considerable debate in American society; (2) Despite a political and constitutional tradition that separates religion and government, there is neither conceptual clarity nor political consensus an how to resolve the many dilemmas created by the presence of religion in the public sphere; (3) There is an urgent need to develop interdisciplinary models for understanding the rote, if any, that religion ought to play in our political and public lives.   • International Studies in Folklore and Ethnology

    This series seeks to contribute to the current vibrant multidisciplinary academic debate regarding folklore and ethnology. The definition of both folklore and ethnology is a constant challenge, and the history of the development of the disciplines differs from one country to another. Folklore is at once dynamic process, shared communication and performance, and ethnology embraces context and folklife. So while these research areas continue to experience dramatic transformation, in terms of methodology, theoretical approaches as well as practical engagement with people and cultures, this series focuses on the evolving study of traditional and popular cultures, in all contexts and across all geographies of time and space. As folklore and ethnology reach across boundaries and become manifest in (new) cultural contexts through the enabling power of global communications and re-imaginings, this series therefore provides an international forum for continuing debate. Through a mixture of edited collections and single-author monographs, this series aims to re-evaluate contemporary critical thought as well as exploring new directions and theories, thus making a significant contribution to these disciplines which are fundamental to our understanding of contemporary culture and identity.

    Patrizia Delpiano (Turin), Fabio Forner (Verona), Giovanni Iamartino (Milan), Sabine Schwarze (Augsburg), Corrado Viola (Verona) The book series is dedicated to the study, in an interdisciplinary approach, of periodicals and newspapers published in Europe from the 17th century to the present. The periodical press played a key role in cultural exchange, public debate, and knowledge transfer. Periodicals became essential elements in the construction and development of a communication network that enabled an open dialogue among the learned people of Europe and the circulation of knowledge among an increasingly wide readership. La collana è dedicata allo studio, in una prospettiva interdisciplinare, dei periodici e dei giornali pubblicati in Europa dal XVII secolo a oggi. La stampa periodica giocò un ruolo chiave nello scambio culturale, nel dibattito pubblico e nella trasmissione della conoscenza. I periodici furono infatti essenziali per la costruzione e lo sviluppo di una rete di comunicazione che consentì un dialogo aperto tra le persone di cultura in tutta Europa e la circolazione del sapere all’interno di un pubblico di lettori sempre più ampio. La collection est consacrée à l’étude, dans une approche interdisciplinaire, des périodiques et des journaux en Europe à partir du XVIIe siècle à nos jours. La presse périodique jouait un rôle clé dans les échanges culturels, le débat public et le transfert de connaissances. Les périodiques devenaient des éléments essentiels dans la construction et le développement d'un réseau de communication qui permettait un dialogue ouvert entre les intellectuels d’Europe en plus de favoriser la circulation des connaissances parmi un public toujours plus vaste. Die Buchreihe widmet sich in einer interdisziplinären Ausrichtung der Erforschung von Zeitschriften und Zeitungen in Europa vom 17. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart. Die periodische Presse spielte eine Schlüsselrolle für den kulturellen Austausch, die öffentliche Debatte und den Wissenstransfer. Periodika wurden zu wesentlichen Elementen im Aufbau und in der Entwicklung eines Kommunikations-netzes, das einen offenen Dialog zwischen den Gelehrten Europas und die Verbreitung von Wissen unter einer breiteren Leserschaft ermöglichte.

    The series Language, Literature, Translation (LeLiTrad) will gather research papers on the various fields related to humanistic and specialized translation approached from multidisciplinary perspectives. In the present collection, therefore, the collection would bring together papers on the translation of literary works from assumptions related to comparative studies, discourse analysis, or the relationships between literature and other arts; Also, the collection would be hosting research papers on disciplines like terminology, applied linguistics, and specialized translation in a variety of fields (such as legal, bio-sanitary, agri-food, technical, hybrid texts, veterinary sciences, economic sciences, translation for citizen security and translation for social affairs, audiovisual translation, para-translation, etc.). Next to these, research papers focused on different aspects of translation like theoretical essays and work on inter-language interpretation will also be accepted and assessed for publication. In short, the series Language, Literature, Translation aims to offer the specialized readers all theoretical and practical aspects hinging around the translation of texts and interpretation of speeches, so that they may contribute to the critical debate and the resulting enrichment of the discipline both in Spain and in the wider European context. La colección Lengua, Literatura, Traducción (LeLiTrad) reúne los distintos ámbitos relacionados con la traducción humanística y especializada desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar. En este sentido, abordamos desde esta colección la traducción literaria de obras desde presupuestos relacionados con la comparatística, el análisis del discurso, o la relación de la literatura con otras artes; por otro lado, la colección acoge trabajos sobre terminología, lingüística aplicada, y traducción especializada en sus múltiples ámbitos (jurídico, biosanitario, agroalimentario, técnico, textos híbridos, ciencias veterinarias, ciencias económicas, traducción para la inclusión, traducción para la seguridad de la ciudadanía y traducción social, traducción audiovisual, paratraducción, etc.). Junto a estos trabajos destinados a las distintas vertientes de la traducción también se contemplarán trabajos de tipo teórico sobre traductología e interpretación.En definitiva, la colección Lengua, Literatura, Traducción pretende mostrar todos los aspectos tanto teóricos como prácticos en torno a la traducción de los textos y a la interpretación de los discursos, de forma que contribuyan al debate crítico y al enriquecimiento de la disciplina dentro de España y en su contexto europeo.

Academic and scholarly responses have built on the traditional and non-traditional analytical frameworks and promoted a multidimensional discourse on, for example, conflict management, peace and security systems, HIV/AIDS, democratic governance, and the implications of globalization. This series is designed to encourage innovative thinking on a broad range of development issues. Thus its remit extends to all fields of intellectual inquiry with the aim of highlighting the advantages of a synergistic interdisciplinary perspective on the challenges of and opportunities for development in the continent. Of particular interest are studies with a heavy empirical content which also have a bearing on policy debates and those that question theoretical orthodoxies while being grounded on concrete developmental concerns.   • Ralahine Utopian Studies

    Ralahine Utopian Studies is the publishing project of the Ralahine Centre for Utopian Studies at the University of Limerick in association with the University of Bologna, the University of Cyprus, the University of Florida and the University of Maine. The series publishes high-quality scholarship that addresses the theory and practice of utopianism (including Anglophone, continental European and indigenous and postcolonial traditions, and contemporary and historical periods). Publications (in English and other European languages) include original monographs and essay collections (including theoretical, textual and ethnographic/institutional research), English-language translations of utopian scholarship in other national languages, reissues of classic scholarly works that are out of print and annotated editions of original utopian literary and other texts (including translations). While the series editors seek work that engages with the current scholarship and debates in the field of utopian studies, they will not privilege any particular critical or theoretical orientation. They welcome submissions by established or emerging scholars working within or outside the academy. Given the multilingual and interdisciplinary remit of the series, the editors especially welcome comparative studies in any disciplinary or transdisciplinary framework.

  • Studies in the History and Culture of Scotland

    This series presents a new reading of Scottish culture, establishing how Scots, and non-Scots, experience the devolved nation. Within the context of a rapidly changing United Kingdom and Europe, Scotland is engaged in an ongoing process of self-definition. The series will deal with this process as well as with cultural phenomena, from debates about the relative value of Gaelic-based, Scots and Anglicised culture, to period-specific definitions of Scottish identity. Orally transmitted culture – from traditional narratives to songs, customs, beliefs and material culture – will be a key consideration, along with the reconstruction of historical periods in cultural texts (visual and musical as well as historical). Taken as a whole, the series will go some way towards achieving a new understanding of a country with potential for development into parallel treatments of locally based cultural phenomena. The series welcomes monographs as well as collected papers.

Sus autores se dedican a la investigación de alto nivel, en el ámbito de la literatura tanto peninsular como hispano-americana. Excepcionalmente se publicarán también tesis de doctorado de suma calidad. La colección se propone ser una tribuna que fomente el intercambio intelectual entre los hispanistas. Además de volúmenes monográficos y antológicos, se prevé la publicación de estudios teóricos que profundicen en cuestiones relativas al debate literario actual, dentro y más allá del hispanismo.
