"This series deals with the relationship between literary creation and the social, political, and historical contexts in which it is produced. The types of volumes may include critical analyses of one or more works by one or several authors; critical editions of important works that may have been out of print for a long time, but which represent a major contribution to literature of the Iberian Peninsula or Latin America, English translations of important works, with critical introduction. Topics for Latin America include: studies of representative works of nineteenth- and twentieth-century thought, poetic portrayals of history, subgenres (fictionalization of the rural and urban social structures); historical novels; literature of exile; re-readings of colonial texts; new approaches to the figure of the Indian and other representatives of transculturation; women writers and other less studied authors. Topics for Spain and Portugal include: writing and nationalism in the Spanish State; bilingualism and the literary texts; censorship and exile; new and renewed genres such as autobiography and testimony; the formation of the avant-garde. Formal studies are expected to bear out the general contextual focus of the series. The use of recent developments in literary criticism is especially appropriate. The series also seeks to contribute to the understanding and accuracy of interpretation of the writing which has combined European elements with indigenous and African ones as well as to the understanding of the dynamics behind such major cultural issues as the formation of literary trends or subgenres, national identities, the effects of postcolonial status on literary imagination, the appearance and experience of women writers, and the relationships between post-modernism and Ibero-American writing. Wiener Iberoromanistische Studien

Die neue Reihe Wiener Iberoromanistische Studien, die von Univ.Prof. Dr. Kathrin Sartingen am Institut für Romanistik der Universität Wien seit 2011 herausgegeben wird, hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, neueste Erkenntnisfragen, Forschungsansätze und Methoden aus dem Wissenschaftsbereich der Iberoromanistik einem breiteren akademischen Publikum zu präsentieren. Im Vordergrund der Reihe stehen wissenschaftliche Monographien von (Jung-)Forscherinnen und Forschern der Universität Wien, aber auch international mit der Iberoromanistik Wien kooperierende Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler werden in Zukunft ihre aktuellen Fragestellungen und Forschungsergebnisse in den Wiener Iberoromanistischen Studien publizieren. Understanding Media Ecology

Media Ecology is a field of inquiry defined as ‘the study of media as environments’. Within this field, the term «medium» can be defined broadly to refer to any human technology or technique, code or symbol system, invention or innovation, system or environment. Media ecology scholarship typically focuses on how technology, symbolic form, and media relate to communication, consciousness, and culture – past, present and future. This series publishes research that furthers the formal development of media ecology as a field of study. Works in this series bring a media ecology approach to bear on specific topics of interest, including theoretical or philosophical investigations concerning the nature and effects of media or a specific medium. Further, this series also publishes books that examine new and emerging technologies and the contemporary media environment, as well as historical studies of media, technology, modes, and codes of communication. Scholarship regarding technique and the technological society is particularly welcome, as is scholarship on specific types of media and culture (e.g., oral and literate cultures, image, etc.). Publications may also consider specific aspects of culture (such as religion, politics, education, journalism, etc.); critical analyses of art and popular culture; and studies of how physical and symbolic environments function as media.

Transamerican Film and Literature

This series publishes scholarly contributions to the growing and ever-changing fields of film and literary studies across the Americas. Written in English or Spanish, the titles in this series include edited volumes, books by single authors, and translations of scholarly monographs. They typically investigate film and literature of the Americas, examining works and trends in relation to form, genre, culture, politics, historiography, and diverse areas of theory. The term "Transamerican" implies transnational perspectives on creative work from all over the Americas, with an emphasis on new assessments of Latin American work, but is not constrained to studies of multiple national cinemas or literatures, and may venture beyond the Americas for comparative purposes. It also encompasses studies of single works or bodies of work from the Americas whose thematics or aesthetics warrant attention from a broad scholarly readership. The mission of the series is to provide a site of dialogue and new collaborations between scholars working on Transamerican film and literary studies throughout the Americas and other continents, emphasizing the region's growing diversity of critical and theoretical perspectives on film and literature. Esta colección estará dedicada a publicar materiales sobre el cine y la literatura que se producen en el continente americano. Los materiales podrán estar escritos en español o en inglés, y podrán ser libros colectivos, trabajos elaborados por un autor individual, traducciones de estudios especializados, así como ediciones o traducciones académicas de textos literarios. En todos los casos serán textos orientados al estudio del cine y/o la literatura en la región continental, en términos de forma, género, cultura, política, historiografía o diversas áreas de la teoría. El término "transamerican" implica una perspectiva transnacional en los estudios sobre trabajos creativos de todo el continente americano, con énfasis en la región latinoamericana, pero no se limita a los estudios sobre los cines o las literaturas nacionales de múltiples países. Por otra parte, admite la exploración, con fines comparativos, de terrenos que rebasan esta región, y puede incorporar estudios sobre las obras individuales o sobre el cúmulo del trabajo de un solo autor cuyas temáticas o características estéticas merecen la atención de una amplia comunidad de lectores especializados. Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique

Dans le panorama de la recherche et, plus particulièrement, de l’hispanisme, un nouveau paradigme privilégiant la prise en considération des échanges et de la circulation de modèles s’affirme. Cette nouvelle perspective permet l’émergence d’un nouveau champ d’études centré sur les relations transatlantiques, transnationales et intercontinentales ; elle met l’accent sur les échanges, les migrations et les passages qui se déclinent de différentes façons entre les cultures des deux côtés de l’Atlantique, depuis plus de cinq siècles. Plus que le paquebot de ligne destiné à la traversée régulière entre l’Europe et l’Amérique, le titre de cette Collection « Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique » évoque le roman homonyme de Witold Gombrowicz – où apparait justement le trait d’union –, les déambulations du protagoniste entre deux mondes, ainsi que les rapprochements entre des lieux bien différents d’une même réalité (la Pologne, où Gombrowicz est né, et l’Argentine, lieu de son séjour prolongé). La Collection « Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique » se veut un espace d’édition ouvert aux travaux qui privilégient cette approche de la littérature comme lieu transculturel par excellence, lieu de dialogue et de controverse entre différents types de discours, lieu, enfin, de tous les possibles, où s’élaborent de nouvelles pratiques de pensée et de création pour donner du sens à l’en-dehors qui l’entoure. En el panorama actual de la investigación, especialmente en el campo del hispanismo, se afirma la presencia de un nuevo paradigma que toma en cuenta, privilegiándolos, los intercambios y la circulación de modelos. Esta nueva perspectiva ha permitido la emergencia de un nuevo campo de estudios, centrado en las relaciones trasatlánticas, transnacionales e inter-continentales, que subraya la importancia de los intercambios, migraciones y pasajes que se declinan de diferentes modos entre las culturas de los dos lados del Atlántico, desde hace más de cinco siglos. El título de esta Colección «Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique» se propone evocar, más allá del vapor de línea que hace la travesía regular entre Europa y América, la novela homónima de Witold Gombrowicz – donde aparece justamente el guión –, y las deambulaciones del protagonista entre dos mundos así como los acercamientos posibles entre dos lugares diferentes de una misma realidad (Polonia, donde Gombrowicz nació y Argentina, lugar donde reside de manera prolongada). La Collection «Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique» es un espacio de publicación de obras que se centren en este tipo de abordaje de la literatura como lugar transcultural por excelencia, lugar de diálogo y de controversia entre diferentes tipos de discurso, lugar de todos los posibles donde se elaboran nuevas prácticas de conocimiento y de creación para dar sentido a lo que está afuera y que, sin embargo, la literatura comprende.

La colección La tradición clásica y humanística en España e Hispanoamérica recoge estudios y ediciones vinculados de una u otra forma a la herencia de Grecia y Roma en los tiempos posteriores o anteriores al Humanismo de los siglos XV y XVI en el ámbito de España e Hispanoamérica. Con ello se pretende recuperar autores y obras, primordialmente de los siglos XVII al XIX, que pueden despertar interés en diferentes ámbitos de investigación. Además de las ediciones, la colección recoge también estudios relacionados con la tradición clásica en sus diferentes aspectos, tanto geográficos como históricos, literarios y artísticos, que irán profusamente documentados y anotados.

Si, en ce début de XXIe siècle, la théorie de la littérature a renoncé aux prétentions scientistes qu’avait fait naitre l’essor du structuralisme, elle n’a sans doute jamais été aussi indispensable. Sur fond de modifications des conceptions du sujet et de son rapport au monde, d’évolution de ses relations avec les autres médias comme avec les autres arts, la pratique littéraire, en pleine mutation, mérite aujourd’hui un examen scrupuleux et renouvelé. Il en va non seulement de la question de sa définition, mais aussi de celle de son pouvoir. C’est à cette exigence théorique que se consacre la collection « ThéoCrit’ ». Comme son titre l’indique, celle-ci accueille aussi bien des travaux de recherche proprement théoriques que des études critiques, pour peu que celles-ci témoignent d’une suffisante rigueur heuristique. De plus, recherche et enseignement entretenant un dialogue nécessaire, des travaux menés en didactique des lettres y sont également publiés. Conçus sous la responsabilité scientifique des directeurs de collection et évalués par un comité de spécialistes des questions traitées, les volumes de ThéoCrit’ englobent des monographies, des recueils d’articles, des Actes de colloques, des synthèses ou des anthologies à destination de l’enseignement. Les langues de ces publications sont le français, l’anglais et l’espagnol. Studies in Philosophy, Culture and Contemporary Society

The aim of the series is to present classical philosophical thought and knowledge about problems and processes which take place in contemporary society. Such a perspective stems from the very relationship between philosophy and social sciences, which is both dynamic and reflexive. On the one hand, in its pure form as a ‘theoria,’ philosophical thought – even if sometimes abstracts from the social context – always remains an active observation that, in the long run, has an impact on social processes, and especially on social sciences. On the other hand, there is a reverse process in which social phenomena directly stimulate philosophical thought. As part of the series, we plan to publish monographs and volumes dealing with specific problems or social phenomena. Furthermore, the works of Polish societies, like The Polish Leibnizian Society and The Bachelard Society ‘Mythopaeia’, and others will be published.

Studien zur Translation und Interkulturellen Kommunikation in der Romania

La série de livres est conçue comme plateforme d’orientation pluridisciplinaire, destinée aux études des domaines de la translation et de la communication interculturelle. Elle comprend autant des monographies que des recueils et des actes de colloque. Dans cette collection sont publiés des travaux qui font avancer la réflexion théorique, mais des études empiriques portant sur une problématique particulière sont également bienvenues. Le spectre thématique prend en compte la complexité de la communication interculturelle. Outre que des travaux des domaines de la linguistique, de la traductologie et des sciences de la communication, la collection prend en considération la pertinence des travaux d’orientation pratique du domaine de la recherche sur l’interculturalité. En ce qui concerne le domaine de la translation, la série comprend des études portant sur des aspects de la linguistique comparée ainsi que des analysés détaillées sur des langues de spécialité, la translation audiovisuelle, la didactique de la translation et la traduction automatisée. Tagungsakten umfassen kann. In der Reihe erscheinen einerseits Beiträge, die die Theoriebildung voranbringen, aber auch empirisch angelegte Einzelstudien sind willkommen. Das Themenspektrum berücksichtigt die Komplexität interkultureller Kommunikationsprozesse, so dass neben textlinguistisch orientierten Arbeiten aus dem Bereich der Sprach-, Übersetzungs- und Kommunikationswissenschaft auch Reflexionen aus kulturtheoretischer Perspektive und praktisch ausgerichtete Beiträge aus dem Gebiet der Interkulturalitätsforschung relevant sind. Im Bereich der Translationswissenschaft sind Beiträge zu zentralen Aspekten übersetzungsbezogener Sprach- und Kulturwissenschaft und zur kontrastiven Linguistik ebenso willkommen wie Detailstudien zu Fachsprachen, Audiovisueller Translation, Translationsdidaktik und maschineller Übersetzung.
