This series is designed to encourage philosophers to explore new directions of research in philosophy. The underlying premise of the series is that contemporary philosophical research is impeded by an understanding of the intellectual division of labor according to which philosophy is conceived of as separate from the natural and social sciences, the arts and humanistic disciplines. Science is impoverished by the neglect of immediate attention to the metaphysical and moral questions posed by scientific developments. The arts and humanistic disciplines are also impoverished by a lack of sufficient attention to the philosophical implication of innovation in each of these areas. Philosophy for its part is in danger of grinding away on outdated problems posed by the scientific and artistic developments of past centuries. The usual remedy for this situation, inter-disciplinary work, typically falls far short of the needed re-integration of philosophy, the sciences, the arts and humanistic disciplines. The pressing problems of contemporary civilization, particularly the problems that concern the relationship between science, technology and ethical and political values, we believe, can only be adequately explored by a re-integration of philosophy with other fields. This series seeks to call attention to itself by meeting high standards of scholarship and producing work of unquestionable merit. Works in this series should contribute to the re-integration of philosophy with the natural and social sciences, technology, the arts or humanities by challenging philosophical preconceptions that block the re-integration of philosophy with other disciplines. Transferwissenschaften

In der Reihe Transferwissenschaften erscheinen Monographien und Sammelbände, die sich mit Fragen zur Transformation von Wissen durch Kommunikation befassen. Die Prinzipien von Wissensproduktion und -rezeption sind dabei ebenso relevant wie strukturelle, kulturelle, kognitive, sprachlich-mediale und emotionale Bedingungen. Die Vermittlung von Kenntnissen und Kompetenzen impliziert beim horizontalen und vertikalen Wissenstransfer zudem fachsprachliche und fachkommunikative Strategien und auch eine mutter- und fremdsprachendidaktische Reflexion. Herausgeber der von Gerd Antos und Sigurd Wichter begründeten Reihe sind Matthias Ballod (Halle), Thorsten Roelcke (Berlin) und Tilo Weber (Liberec). Manuskripteinreichungen werden erbeten an den Verlag oder an die Herausgeber. Für diese Reihe gibt es ein Stylesheet – es kann bei den Herausgebern oder unter m.ruecker@peterlang.com angefragt werden.

Beiträge zur Kirchen- und Kulturgeschichte

Die Buchreihe Beiträge zur Kirchen- und Kulturgeschichte wurde 1994 ins Leben gerufen, um Interessenten des Fachkomplexes "Neuzeitliche Kirchengeschichte mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der Institutionen und geistesgeschichtlichen Strömungen" eine Plattform für Veröffentlichungen, die selber ganz unabhängig von kirchlichen Instanzen, aber auch von dominanten Schulen der Geschichtswissenschaft sein sollte. Diese doppelte Unabhängigkeit, verbunden mit dem Impuls, bevorzugt Werke aufzunehmen, die auf primären Quellenstudien beruhen, d.h. bei allem natürlich notwendigen Methodenbewußtsein doch vor allem tatsächlich Unbekanntes ans Licht heben, hat dieser Serie ein eigenes Profil gegeben. Im Lauf der Jahre stellten sich dann zwei Schwerpunkte heraus, die in ihrer Gegensätzlichkeit den Spannungsbogen der jüngeren Kirchengeschichtsforschung darstellen : auf der einen Seite stehen Untersuchungen zur kirchlichen Ämterstruktur, auf der anderen Seite Arbeiten zum Modernismus, resp. der innerkirchlichen Dissidenz im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert.

Das Herausgebergremium der Reihe Vergleichende Musikwissenschaft veröffentlicht in dieser Publikationen zu aktuellen Themen aus dem Fachbereich der Musikwissenschaft. Die Studien widmen sich vor allem der Ethnomusikologie sowie internationalen Perspektiven und Forschungsergebnissen der theoretischen Beschäftigung mit Musik. Es erscheinen sowohl Bände in deutscher als auch in englischer Sprache. Das Interesse der von internationalen Autoren gestalteten Reihe besteht in der Veröffentlichung von religionskundlichen Arbeiten, die Themen aus dem gesamten Bereich der Kulturformen von Religion aufgreifen, insbesondere aber solche, die im etablierten akademischen Publikationswesen weniger oder gar nicht berücksichtigt werden. Dies gilt nicht nur im Hinblick auf die christlichen, sondern gerade auch auf die islamischen, Hindu, buddhistischen, jüdischen und anderen Religionskulturen. Zur Erschließung von Religionskultur wird auf methodische und konzeptionelle Einseitigkeit verzichtet, und das ganze Spektrum systematischer, historischer und phänomenologischer Methoden sowie unterschiedlicher theoretischer Zugangsweisen zum Verständnis von Religion in all ihren Erscheinungsweisen herangezogen.

Die Reihe Mitteleuropa - Osteuropa veröffentlicht die Oldenburger Beiträge zur Kultur und Geschichte Ostmitteleuropas auf den Gebieten der Geschichtswissenschaft, Politikwissenschaft, Slavistik, Baltistik und Balkanistik. Die Monographien und Sammelbände befassen sich u. a. mit Stereotypenforschung sowie mit vergleichenden Kulturstudien. Herausgeber der Reihe ist das Bundesinstitut für Kultur und Geschichte der Deutschen im östlichen Europa in Kooperation mit dem Institut für Geschichte der Universität Oldenburg. Band 11 schließt diese Reihe ab.

Linguistik International

Die Reihe Linguistik international bietet Kongressakten und wissenschaftliche Monographien aus der Germanistik, Anglistik, Slawistik und allgemeinen Sprachwissenschaft in deutscher und englischer Sprache. Schwerpunkte bilden die Akten des Linguistischen Kolloquiums seit 1999, das seit 1968 jährlich an wechselnden europäischen Universitäten stattfindet und vor allem jungen Linguisten ein offenes Forum bietet, und die Akten der Konferenz «Formal Description of Slavic Languages» seit 2001.

Studies in the History of Medicine

Studies in the History of Medicine provides an outlet for academic monographs devoted to both the social and the intellectual dimensions of the history of medicine. No limitations are imposed with respect to period or place, providing the approach adopted is analytical and historical. The series encourages investigations relating to previously neglected aspects of medicine and health care such as the history of nursing or other occupations associated with health care, case studies of particular disease and illness phenomena, health care in colonial and postcolonial settings, or indeed complementary medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. The monographs inevitably evaluate the impact of modern high-technology medicine, but they also give appropriate weight to health care as it relates to the elderly, the mentally ill or other vulnerable social groups. Except in special circumstances the series will not include general biographies, histories of individual institutions and organisations, or studies of parochial interest. The monographs included in this series reflect the leading edge of research in the now well-established and still expanding field of medical history.
