Favoriser la confrontation interdisciplinaire et internationale de toutes les formes de recherches consacrées à la communication humaine, en publiant sans délai des travaux scientifiques d’actualité: tel est le rôle de la collection Sciences pour la Communication. Elle se propose de réunir des études portant sur tous les langages, naturels ou artificiels, et relevant de toutes les disciplines sémiologiques: linguistique, psychologie ou sociologie du langage, sémiotiques diverses, logique, traitement automatique, systèmes formels, etc. Ces textes s’adressent à tous ceux qui voudront, à quelque titre que ce soit et où que ce soit, se tenir au courant des développements les plus récents des sciences du langage.

La collection Doctorats, sciences et carrières publie des ouvrages en anglais et en français en vue de nourrir le débat international sur les conditions de la recherche et de la formation à la recherche, l’expérience des chercheur∙e∙s, l’insertion professionnelle des docteur∙e∙s, le genre et la science, les instruments de régulation et leurs effets sur les pratiques et cultures scientifiques. D’autres problématiques émergentes sont susceptibles d’être étudiées dans les publications de cette collection. En effet, la Science, par ses contributions, découvertes, risques et espoirs, fait l’objet d’une forte attention publique et de nombreux débats tant à une échelle nationale qu’internationale. Au début du XXIe siècle, s’observe une préoccupation grandissante pour l’expérience de la formation doctorale et du travail scientifique ainsi que pour les conditions de leur réalisation. Le devenir professionnel des chercheur∙e∙s est également en mutation, en raison de la croissance rapide du nombre de doctorant∙e∙s et de postdoctorant∙e∙s, de la féminisation des carrières académiques (certes toujours singulièrement limitée), et de la transformation de la régulation de la Science et des universités. À travers des thématiques variées et des angles disciplinaires différents (histoire, droit, gestion, psychologie, sociologie, éducation…), cette collection vise à accueillir ces résultats de recherche et, ce faisant, à alimenter la réflexivité du monde de la recherche sur lui-même.

Cities are inherently places of communication, meeting spaces for interaction and/or observation. The nature of any communication venue is altered by social and technological circumstances and the urban environment is altered, in turn, by changes in communication patterns. We need to understand relationships among these significant forces – communication, technology, and the urban, suburban, rural environment – as they shape each other. Communication systems and urban social systems can be examined at multiple levels as scholars and planners examine interaction in public spaces, neighborhood communication patterns, and urban systems of transport. The focus of this series is on social relationships in a swiftly changing communication environment. Media coverage of urban issues, conflict resolution and contested urban space, visual communication, rhetorical dimensions of urban life, film and the city, journalism, the ethnic press, local media and public policy are just some areas of relevance. Volumes in this series provide a forum to explore and discuss the challenges created by the intersection of communication and urban life, focusing on what communication scholarship has to offer for enhanced understanding of cities and for the development of a public policy that takes into account communication needs and practices.

World Science Fiction Studies understands science fiction to be an inherently global phenomenon. Proposals are invited for monographs and edited collections that celebrate the tremendous reach of a genre that continues to be interpreted and transformed by a variety of cultures and linguistic communities around the world. The series embraces this global vision of the genre but also supports the articulation of each community’s unique approach to the challenges of science, technology and society. The series encourages the use of contemporary theoretical approaches (e.g. postcolonialism, posthumanism, feminisms, ecocriticism) as well as engagement with positionalities understood through critical race and ethnicity studies, gender studies, queer theory, disability studies, class analysis, and beyond. Interdisciplinary work and research on any media (e.g. print, film, television, visual arts, video games, new media) is welcome. The language of the series is English. Peter Lang Publishing’s Lifespan Communication: Children, Families and Aging book series seeks to publish authored and edited scholarly volumes that focus on relational and group communication as they develop over the lifespan (infancy through later life). The series will include volumes on the communication development of children and adolescents, family communication, peer-group communication (among age cohorts), intergenerational communication, and later-life communication, as well as longitudinal studies of lifespan communication development, communication during lifespan transitions, and lifespan communication research methods. On a cultural level, research on visual media analysis and critical methods that examine the larger cultural messages imbedded in visual images is welcome. Nature, Science and the Arts is an international scholarly series dealing with the history of cultural interplay between arts, humanities, natural sciences and technology, both on the level of theoretical reflection and in artistic enunciations. It is not restricted to any particular epoch, society, medium or region. By publishing contributions to this new interdisciplinary research area, the series illuminates the traditional connection between two ways of interpreting the world, a connection that has been largely marginalized since Wilhelm Dilthey’s strict dissociation between humanities and natural sciences. Nature, Science et les Arts est une collection scientifique internationale qui explore l’histoire des interactions entre la culture des sciences humaines et artistiques et celle des sciences naturelles et techniques, au niveau de la réflexion théorique et de l’articulation artistique. Elle s’intéresse pour cela à toutes les époques, formes de sociétés, médias et régions. La collection présente des études sur ces nouveaux domaines de recherche et illustre le lien traditionnel entre deux perceptions du monde qui ont été très largement marginalisées depuis la stricte séparation opérée par Wilhem Diltheys entre les sciences humaines et naturelles. Natur, Wissenschaft und die Künste ist eine internationale Wissenschaftsreihe, welche die Geschichte des Zusammenwirkens geisteswissenschaftlich-künstlerischer und naturwissenschaftlich-technischer Kultur auf der Ebene theoretischer Reflektion und künstlerischer Artikulation untersucht.
