This series of monographs is concerned with drama and allied entertainment in a wide variety of kinds in the theatre and on film, television and video screens. The emphasis is on the history and interpretation of dramatic entertainment, performance and production in regular and musical theatre, including music hall and variety stages, in para-theatrical activities, like fairground performance and festivals, and in the silent and sound cinema and on television and video. The series engages particularly with the social, political and economic contexts of drama on past and present stages and screens, considering the work of dramatists, performers, directors, designers, technicians and administrators, and will aim to be very wide-ranging in scope, its subjects spanning Classical, Medieval and Renaissance European drama and theatre, Eastern theatre forms, and international modern drama in its various performance kinds. Within this broad remit, the series hopes to publish historical, critical and theoretical studies, annotated anthologies of critical, theoretical and dramatic texts, and collections of interviews and screenplays.

Ibero-American Screens / Pantallas Iberoamericanas

This series approaches the Ibero-American audiovisual field—cinema and television—from an interdisciplinary perspective, with special emphasis on studies stemming from Media Studies and Cultural Studies. We are especially interested in those volumes that examine audiovisual production in the Iberian Peninsula and/or Latin America from a comparative perspective. In addition, the collection will include studies on the production, distribution and circulation of audiovisual artifacts in the digital era. Consequently, we include works that explore the relationship between audiovisual media and other fields of popular culture, such as music and sports. We accept both theoretical proposals on audiovisual media and historical approaches that scrutinize a specific period of cinema or television in one or several geopolitical spaces. The series includes volumes on industrials aspects and political economy and reflections on key aspects for the articulation of both national and transnational imaginaries, such as memory and representational templates. The featured volumes can be monographs or collections of essays by different authors, in Spanish or English. Esta colección se acerca al ámbito audiovisual iberoamericano—cine y televisión— desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar, con especial énfasis en estudios provenientes de la Comunicación y los Estudios Culturales. Son de especial interés aquellos volúmenes que examinen la producción audiovisual de la Península Ibérica y/o Latinoamérica desde una perspectiva comparativa. Además, son especialmente relevantes aquellos estudios que aborden las transformaciones en la producción, distribución y circulación de los artefactos audiovisuales en la era digital. Por consiguiente, se incluyen trabajos que exploren la relación del audiovisual con otros campos de la cultura popular, como la música y deportes. Se aceptan propuestas de carácter teórico sobre diversos ámbitos del audiovisual y volúmenes de cariz más histórico que abordan un periodo concreto del cine o televisión de uno o varios espacios geopolíticos. La colección incluye tanto volúmenes que se centren en aspectos industriales o de economía política como reflexiones sobre temas clave en la articulación de imaginarios colectivos nacionales o transnacionales como la memoria y la representación. Los libros pueden ser manuscritos monográficos o colecciones de ensayos de diversos autores, en español o inglés.

Regionalsprache und regionale Kultur

Die Reihe hat zum Ziel, Arbeiten zur Sprache und Kommunikation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern unter einem publizistischen Dach zu vereinen und die bislang disparate Forschung auf diesem Gebiet erstmals und langfristig zusammenzuführen. Die linguistische Erforschung der Sprache(n) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern hat eine bis in das 19. Jahrhundert (und darüber hinaus) zurückreichende Tradition, wobei der Fokus lange auf den historischen mittelniederdeutschen Sprachformen sowie den basisdialektalen Varietäten, d.h. den traditionellen mecklenburgischen und pommerschen Dialekten lag. Im Kontext der neueren Dialektologie und Regionalsprachenforschung lässt sich für die letzten Jahre ein vermehrtes wissenschaftliches Interesse auch an der rezenten Regionalsprache beobachten, deren Strukturierung, Differenzierung, Entwicklung und Verwendung analysiert wird. LITTERA

Im Rahmen der Reihe „Littera" erscheinen seit 2005 Studien zur Sprache und Literatur. Sie deckt ein breites Spektrum aktueller Trends in der germanistischen und anglistischen Linguistik ab und ist auch offen für weitere Philologien sowie für interdisziplinäre Perspektiven. Die Bandbreite der Themen reicht von interkultureller Kommunikation und kontrastiver Linguistik bis hin zur Literaturtheorie des Strukturalismus. Schwerpunktmäßig bietet die Reihe einen Ort für Brückenschläge zwischen Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft, wie sie seit langem, verstärkt in jüngerer Zeit, unter den Schlagwörtern „Literaturlinguistik", „Linguistische Poetik" bzw. „Linguistische Literaturwissenschaft" immer wieder vorgenommen werden.

The discussion of the Christian acceptance or rejection of scientific innovation is welcomed, as is the examination of the emerging issues of the twenty-first century, such as genetic screening, gene therapy, insurance and genetics, genetic stigmatisation, cloning, health care and rationing, the reformulation of the just war arguments, and non-lethal weapons. Issues in healthcare ethics affect almost every person all over the world. The immense leaps in science and technology, changes in the general perception of national and global interests, possible limits in resources, mass communication, and other possible limits in resources, mass communication, and other factors have currently engendered a stronger interest and concern with health. This may range from the commonly discussed issues of euthanasia, abortion, macro- and microallocation of resources, and mandatory AIDS testing to the less frequently addressed but still vital issues in pharmacology, genetic testing, screening and therapy, nursing, mental health, and public health. Books, articles, and scholarly studies appear frequently in many countries. In each, the literature tends to consider the ethics of healthcare issues in depth but from a standpoint defined by culture and nationality, and by national government policies and perspectives. Such a standpoint necessarily limits and excludes many potentially useful and innovative approaches to issues. The International Healthcare Ethics series presents a broad perspective on a wide range of healthcare issues and the exchange of ideas between cultures and nations to stimulate thought. It also offers a forum for addressing healthcare issues that can affect each of us on a global scale. Manuscripts are welcome from universities, bioethics centers, and healthcare organizations. Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT)

Desde el cambio de paradigma que supone la noción teórica de paratraducción, creada por el Grupo de investigación Traducción & Paratraducción (T&P) de la Universidade de Vigo (España), la colección Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT), dirigida por José Yuste Frías y Óscar Ferreiro Vázquez, invita a reflexionar de manera transdisciplinar sobre la transtextualidad, en general, y la paratextualidad, muy en particular, en los procesos transmediales de la comunicación internacional entre diferentes lenguas (interlinguas) y culturas. Los principales objetos de estudio de ParatradIT son los soportes materiales transmediáticos, los procesos, los modos, las técnicas, las estrategias, las instituciones, las herramientas tecnológicas, las inteligencias artificiales y los seres humanos que hacen posible las transferencias lingüísticas y culturales tanto en pantalla como en papel. ParatradIT acoge publicaciones temáticas centradas no sólo sobre el área de traducción e interpretación, sino también sobre áreas afines como, por ejemplo, la didáctica de lenguas extranjeras y pedagogía de segundas lenguas en la mediación entre culturas. ParatradIT es una colección siempre abierta a los cambios teóricos, didácticos y profesionales que pueden surgir en los diferentes sectores estratégicos de la traducción, como, por poner tan sólo un ejemplo, el sector de la industria del videojuego donde nuevas formas paratextuales ayudan a crear nuevas narrativas transmedia ludográficas en pantalla que suponen nuevos retos de transcreación en la localización de videojuegos. Since the paradigm shift represented by the theoretical notion of paratranslation, created by the Research Group Traducción & Paratraducción (T&P) (T&P), from the University of Vigo (Spain), the series Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT), edited by José Yuste Frías and Óscar Ferreiro Vázquez, invites interdisciplinary reflection on intertextuality, in general, and paratextuality, specifically, in transmedia processes for international communication among different languages (interlinguas) and cultures. The main objects of study of ParatradIT are the transmedia materials support, processes, modes, techniques, strategies, institutions, technological tools, artificial intelligences, and humans that enable linguistic and cultural transfers, both on screen and on paper. ParatradIT hosts themed publications not only in the field of translation and interpretation, but also in related fields such as foreign language teaching and second language pedagogy in cross-cultural mediation. The series will include historical, anthropological, musicological, ethnomusicological, theological and philosophical dimensions and encourages multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary contributions. It looks for well-researched studies with new and open approaches to spirituality and music and encourages interesting innovative case-studies. Books within the series are subject to peer review and will include single and co-authored monographs as well as edited collections including conference proceedings. The use of musical material in either written or recorded form as part of submissions is welcome.

Die neue Schriftenreihe will die umwälzenden Fragen der digitalen Gesellschaft aus juristischer Perspektive nachzeichnen, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung des IT-Rechts und der technischen Bezüge der Digitalisierung. Das besondere Augenmerk gilt dabei der interdisziplinären Verzahnung von Technik und Recht. Dabei weitet sich das IT-Recht zunehmend zu einem allgemeinen Daten- und Informationsrecht aus, sodass auch die Bezüge zu Rechtsfragen von Big Data, dem Dateneigentum oder der datenschutzrechtlichen Zuordnung von Informationen thematisiert werden. Willkommen sind insbesondere Abhandlungen, die die Grundsatzfragen des Informationsrechts interdisziplinär und rechtsvergleichend untersuchen. Die Schriftenreihe wurde Mitte 2022 eingestellt.

This series includes theoretical studies of any genre or aspect of folklore. The series welcomes individually authored and collaboratively authored books, monographs, collections of data, bibliographies, and Festschriften. The emphasis will be on analytic and methodological innovations in the consideration of myth, folktale, legend, superstition, proverb, riddle, folksong, festival, game or any other form of folklore as well as any of the interpretative approaches to folklore topics. Reflecting LMU Munich's strong track record in sound philological research, it is also open to literary and cultural studies – and to submissions from outside Munich. Its languages are English and German. The series was formerly known as Münchener Universitätsschriften. Die Reihe kombiniert traditionelle Stärken mit innovativer Öffnung: Sie bietet Monographien und Sammelbände, die thematisch von historischer Linguistik bis zur Literatur der frühen Neuzeit und darüberhinaus reichen, aber auch Editionen englischer mediävistischer oder einschlägiger lateinischer Texte. Der eingeführte Reihentitel stellt auf die anerkannte Stärke der Münchener anglistischen Philologie ab, doch ausdrücklich sind auch literatur- und kulturwissenschaftliche Untersuchungen willkommen – ebenso wie Arbeiten von außerhalb Münchens. With the advent of digitization, communication with and between machines increasingly plays a role in interpersonal interactions. What will the future look like: will algorithms become more important than argumentation? Will societal discussions and decisions be replaced by big data analyses? What role will social media play, and how will communication work there? Will we still be telling stories in the future, while algorithms will be writing history? In short, how will information technology, social robots and artificial intelligence alter our existing understandings of communication in the emerging digital age? This book series aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for both empirical and theoretical discussions of the relationship between language and digital culture. Book proposals are welcome and may be sent to either the editorial board or the publisher. The languages of publication are German and English. Mit der Digitalisierung tritt neben die zwischenmenschliche Interaktion zunehmend die Kommunikation mit und zwischen Maschinen. Doch wie wird die Zukunft aussehen: Werden Algorithmen wichtiger sein als Argumente? Werden soziale Diskussionen und Entscheidungen durch Big Data-Analysen ersetzt? Welche Rolle werden die Social Media spielen, und wie wird dort kommuniziert werden? Werden wir uns zukünftig zwar noch Geschichten erzählen, Algorithmen aber faktisch Geschichte schreiben? Toronto Studies in Religion

This series of monographs and books is designed as a contribution to the scholarly and academic understanding of religion. Such understanding is taken to involve both a descriptive and an explanatory task. The first task is conceived as one of surface description involving the gathering of information about religions, and depth description that provides, on the basis of the data gathered, a more finely nuanced description of a tradition's self-understanding. The second task concerns the search for explanation and the development of theory to account for religion and for particular historical traditions. The series will, furthermore, cover the phenomenon of religion in all its constituent dimensions and geographic diversity. Both established and younger scholars in the field will be included and will represent a wide range of viewpoints and positions, producing original work of high order at the monograph and major study level. Speculations

This new series explores the multiple intersections of science, fiction and the future, where speculative imaginings begin to enter the present. The series provides short introductions and surveys on single topics where science, technology and the imagination intertwine in the creation of possible futures. How is speculative fiction in dialogue with futures thinking and technological development? What challenges do we face when futuristic science and technology are happening now? Who benefits from these futures and how can they be made ethical, inclusive and sustainable? Welcome topics include big data, AI, urban renewal, machine learning, pandemics, interplanetary life, robotics, green energy, the posthuman and more. Each book in this multidisciplinary series offers a critical yet accessible approach to one topic, including coverage of key texts and ground-breaking original research.

Indigenous Cultures of Latin America

Indigenous Cultures of Latin America: Past and Present is a new bilingual series that welcomes book proposals, in English or Spanish, focused on the fields of anthropology, archaeology, linguistics, ethnohistory, and art history, among others. We encourage original proposals for projects that use a conjunctive approach to understanding beliefs and lifeways of prehispanic, colonial period, and contemporary indigenous peoples inhabiting Latin America, broadly defined (i.e. extending into parts of the U.S. Southeast and Southwest), relying on a combination of methodologies and data sets to interpret the subject matter. We further encourage projects that utilize decolonizing methodologies and seek to promote research and fieldwork undertaken in collaboration with local indigenous communities and/or indigenous consultants. The series will publish academic monographs, edited collections, and readers. All book proposals and manuscripts will be subject to a rigorous single-blind peer review process, conducted by experts in the respective field(s) of study. Language as Social Action

This Series explores new and exciting advances in the ways in which language both reflects and fashions social reality--and thereby constitutes critical means of social action. As well as these being central foci in face-to-face interactions across different cultures, they also assume significance in the ways that language functions in the mass medias, new technologies, organizations, and social institutions. Language As Social Action does not uphold apartheid against any particular methodological and/or ideological position, but, rather, promotes (wherever possible) cross-fertilization of ideas and empirical data across the many, all-too-contrastive, social scientific approaches to language and communication. Contributors to the Series will also accord due attention to the historical, political, and economic forces that contextually bound the ways in which language patterns are analyzed, produced, and received. The Series will also provide an important platform for theory-driven works that have profound, and oftentimes provocative, implications for social policy.

Contemporary Studies in Descriptive Linguistics

This series provides an outlet for academic monographs which offer a recent and original contribution to linguistics and which are within the descriptive tradition. While the monographs demonstrate their debt to contemporary linguistic thought, the series does not impose limitations in terms of methodology or genre, and does not support a particular linguistic school. Rather the series welcomes new and innovative research that contributes to furthering the understanding of the description of language. The topics of the monographs are scholarly and represent the cutting edge for their particular fields, but are also accessible to researchers outside the specific disciplines. Contemporary Studies in Descriptive Linguistics is based at the School of English, University of St Andrews. The Literary and Cultural Stylistics subseries aims to explore the intersection of descriptive linguistics with the disciplines of literature and culture. The techniques of stylistic analysis offer a way of approaching texts both literary and non-literary as well as all forms of cultural communication. The subseries offers a home for this research, where literary criticism meets linguistics and where cultural studies meets communication. It welcomes a wide range of data sets and methodologies, with the intention that every book in the subseries makes a new contribution to the disciplines that support them.

Until the publication of volume 16, the series was coedited by prof. Piotr Ruszkiewicz. The series will publish books addressing the nexus between language, culture and society. Contrastive studies are welcome in particular, whether of a synchronic or diachronic orientation. Various perspectives on language/communication are of interest: grammatical, pragmatic, sociolinguistic, discoursal and semiotic. A wide range of theoretical and methodological positions is accepted: cognitive /anthropological / corpus linguistics, as well as pragmatics, interactional sociolinguistics, (specialized) genre analysis, or critical discourse studies. The cutting edge of the series is to publish innovative research elucidating the processes of inter- and intra-language variation and change, and – at the same time – relating them to flows in and across cognate categories of culture, community and society. The series will publish monographs and edited volumes reporting on data-driven research that carries a potential for application in translation studies, language teaching, multilingual (multicultural) education, and interdisciplinary critical discourse studies. The languages of publication will be English and German, yet book proposals in other major languages will also be considered, if centrally contributive to the main aim of the series.
