Language, Migration and Identity

This series fills a hitherto neglected but now growing area in the treatment of migration: the role of language and identity. This topic is central in a globalized world where the definition of community is constantly challenged by the increased mobility of individuals. Linked to this mobility is the issue of identity construction, in which language plays a key role. Language practices are indicators of the socialization process in bilingual and multilingual settings, and part of the strategies by which speakers assert membership within social groups. Migrant speakers are constantly engaged in identity construction in varying settings. Language, Migration and Identity invites proposals for revised dissertations, monographs and edited volumes on language practices and language use by migrant speakers. A wide range of themes is envisaged, within the area of migration, but from a broadly linguistic perspective. The series welcomes studies of migrant communities and their language practices, studies of language practices in multilingual educational settings, and case studies of identity building among migrants through language use. Proposals might focus on topics such as second language acquisition in social contexts, variation in L2 speech, multilingualism, acquisition of sociolinguistic competence, hybridity and ‘crossing’ in relation to identity. A multiplicity of approaches in the treatment of this interdisciplinary area will be welcome, from quantitative to ethnographic to mixed methods. The series welcomes established scholars as well as early career academics and recent PhD research.

German Studies in America publishes research across the field of German studies in the broadest sense, from literary criticism to cultural studies. The editors welcome scholarly work that takes an innovative approach to German, Swiss, or Austrian history, literature, politics, philosophy, national identity, religion, popular culture, film, music, and/or visual art. We are also eager to consider projects that adopt interdisciplinary and intersectional approaches as well as studies with theoretical approaches including psychoanalysis, gender studies, feminism, Marxism, critical race studies, etc. We publish scholarly monographs, translations and edited volumes of essays in both German and English. This series adheres to the highest academic standards and is peer reviewed.

Outre-Mers

Contrary to certain preconceptions concerning globalisation, the phenomenon is not a recent one. In the past, many regions around the world have been incorporated into a dominant social and economic system at varying rates and to varying degrees. Their history has also become the history of Europe for which these regions have become so many “Overseas”. This collection is open in part to works dedicated to these Overseas regions and in part to works on their relationships with Europe. The aim of the collection is to bring together works concentrating rather on cross-perspectives than readings based on radical, generally univocal confrontations. Alongside these monographs and collective research works, the collection also makes room for the publication of documents and work tools designed not only to contribute to changing these problems but also to make it easier to exploit as yet unknown or little known sources. Michel Dumoulin (Université Catholique de Louvain) and Patricia Van Schuylenbergh (Royal Museum for Central Africa and Université Catholique de Louvain) are managing the collection with the help of an editorial committee. Malgré certaines idées reçues au sujet de la globalisation, celle-ci ne constitue pas un phénomène récent. Au fil du temps, les différentes parties du monde ont été intégrées, selon des rythmes et une amplitude variant de l’une à l’autre, à un système économique et social dominant. L’histoire de ces régions est aussi devenue celle de l’Europe pour laquelle elles sont devenues autant d’Outre-Mers. C’est aux travaux consacrés à ces Outre-Mers, d’une part ; aux rapports qu’ils ont entretenus avec l’Europe, d’autre part, que cette collection est ouverte dans le souci d’accueillir des approches privilégiant les regards croisés plutôt que les lectures fondées sur des confrontations radicales le plus souvent univoques. Au côté de monographies et résultats de recherches collectives, la collection ménage une place aux éditions de documents et aux instruments de travail destinés à contribuer au renouvellement des problématiques mais aussi à faciliter l’exploitation de sources peu ou pas encore connues. La collection est placée sous la direction de Michel Dumoulin (Université catholique de Louvain) et Patricia Van Schuylenbergh (Musée royal de l’Afrique centrale et Université catholique de Louvain) secondés par un comité éditorial.

Victorian and Edwardian Studies

The series focuses primarily on subjects, works and authors of Victorian and Edwardian literature in light of an interpretation of the lines of epistemic continuities/discontinuities involved in the historical notion of “the long nineteenth-century” (1789–1914). While promoting new critical perspectives in the field of Victorian textual production (from literature to visual arts, from scientific works to popular press), the series also aims to publish interdisciplinary works which consider the ideological and sociocultural implications of the radical transformation in Victorian society. The publications in the series originate mainly from research work conducted at the CUSVE (Centre for Victorian and Edwardian Studies – University of Pescara, Italy) but the series is open to contributions originating outside the CUSVE. It publishes monographs, collections of essays, conference proceedings and doctoral dissertations. The language of publications is both English and Italian.

Anthropologie et philosophie sociale

Cette collection a pour objectif de promouvoir des recherches philosophiques se situant au croisement de l’anthropologie et de la philosophie sociale. L’hypothèse fondamentale est qu’une philosophie sociale soucieuse d’interroger de façon à la fois descriptive et critique les modes contemporains de constitution du lien social ne peut manquer de questionner les présupposés anthropologiques qui sous-tendent son interrogation. Inversement, toute recherche sur les dimensions essentielles de la condition humaine se doit d’interroger la façon dont celles-ci sont chaque fois mises en jeu et recomposées par le contexte social-historique au sein duquel les individus se trouvent. Attentive à la vulnérabilité radicale de la vie individuelle et collective tout autant qu’à sa puissance de création, cette collection vise à faire de l’anthropologie et de la philosophie sociale l’envers et l’endroit d’un même mouvement de recherche portant sur la vie subjective et sa socialité originaire. Dans cette perspective, il s’agit, pour une part, de favoriser la reprise de concepts anthropologiques récents ou provenant de l’épaisseur de l’histoire de façon à les rendre opératoires pour une philosophie sociale questionnant ses propres présupposés anthropologiques. Il s’agit, pour une seconde part, de permettre aux recherches effectuées en anthropologie de questionner leurs présupposés normatifs. Une telle collection désire ainsi ouvrir un espace de réflexion informé par un double mouvement, celui de l’anthropologie vers la philosophie sociale, celui de la philosophie sociale vers l’anthropologie.

Social and cultural processes are eminently historical. Historical research and historical studies, themselves embedded in historical contexts, meet this fact by reconstructing historical processes and by making offers for their analysis and interpretation. A series of new phenomena and transformations are currently challenging the exploration of education and formation and their different institutionalized forms. Among them, the process of dense globalization, increasing cultural transfers and entanglements, the scarcity of natural resources, the accelerated pace of the transformation of media environments and novel forms of individualization are some of the most pressing. These phenomena and transformations pose new questions for historical research in education. The book series "Studia Educationis Historica" offers historical studies that address these challenges with traditional and innovative historical research methods. The series offers analyses on the history of education in different countries as well as comparative and international studies. German, English, and Spanish are the languages of the book series. La historiografía, una práctica integrada en tramas históricas determinadas, responde a este fenómeno en tanto reconstruye procesos históricos y genera ofertas de análisis e interpretación de los mismos. Recherches comparatives sur les livres et le multimédia d'enfance

Cette collection, destinée à créer un espace d’analyse sur les littératures et les productions culturelles dédiées à l’enfance et à la jeunesse, et ce quel qu’en soit le support – littérature orale, livre, multimédia, audiovisuel – se veut être un terrain d’échanges et un chantier ouvert à des questionnements éclairés. Dans cette perspective, elle s’attache à insérer la réflexion dans le vaste champ des approches critiques liées à la littérature en général et aux sciences humaines, tout en ayant le souci de présenter des études comparatives émanant d’horizons multiples et de pays divers. À ce titre, la collection, principalement orientée vers le monde francophone, pourra donner lieu à la publication d’ouvrages critiques en d’autres langues.

Maß und Wert

Die Reihe verfolgt das Ziel, die problematische Bindung von Wissenschaft an Ethik mittelbar und unmittelbar anzusprechen. Die Zeitschrift „Maß und Wert“ war in den Jahren 1937 bis 1940 eines der Mittel, mit denen Thomas Mann sich der Verkennung der deutschen Entwicklung entgegenstellte. Inhaltlich sollen die germanistischen Studien ihr Maß aus dem Wert des Menschen gewinnen, sich systematisch im Hinblick auf Alexander Popes Vers „The proper study of mankind is man“ begründen lassen. „Euch ist kein Maß und Ziel gesetzt“ – das sind Worte Mephistos, nachdem Faust den Pakt mit ihm geschlossen hat, zugleich aber Ausdruck der objektiven Gefährdung des neuzeitlichen Forschens. Sie wird im Werk Friedrich Nietzsches mit dem Kollektivsingular „im Menschen ist Geschöpf und Schöpfer vereint“ vielfach variiert ausgeführt. Methodisch ist die Reihe für alle Zugänge offen.

This «Social Economy & Public Economy» series brings together books and monographs with a common focus: the analysis of the economic activities of formal and informal organisations that aim to serve the «public/general interest» or broad «common welfare» of their societies. Diverse initiatives and a wide variety of organisational forms are concerned: public or private nonprofit organisations and services, social services, public utilities, regulatory rules and actions, public enterprises, local community and regional economic development bodies, cooperatives, mutualist enterprises, etc. The series aims to promote a more scientific, and in-depth international and comparative understanding of this type of research that has been rapidly expanding in recent years. The series will reflect about these developments and through its dissemination, it will also support the increasing inter-disciplinarity and multi-disciplinarity of much of this recent research (e.g. economics, sociology, political science, law, policy evaluation and policy analysis, etc.) Editorial responsibility for the series resides with CIRIEC, an international scientific organisation that promotes, supports and disseminates research on the public economy, the social economy, and cooperatives. One of CIRIEC’s key goals and activities is the promotion, support, and expansion of a large international network of researchers who specialise in these issues. This series will allow the publication of work by members of this network as well as providing an outlet for any related research work by other people outside the existing CIRIEC network. La collection « Économie sociale & Économie publique » rassemble des ouvrages proposant, dans une perspective de comparaison internationale, des analyses des organisations et des activités économiques orientées vers l’intérêt général et l’intérêt collectif : services sociaux, services publics, régulation, entreprises publiques, action économique des entités territoriales (régions, autorités locales), coopératives, mutuelles, associations, ... Dans un contexte de « grande transformation », l’activité scientifique dans ce domaine s’y est fortement développée et la collection se veut un nouveau vecteur de diffusion et de valorisation de cette activité dans une approche pluridisciplinaire (économie, sciences sociales, droit, sciences politiques, ...). La collection est placée sous la responsabilité éditoriale du CIRIEC. Organisation internationale à but scientifique, le CIRIEC a pour objet la réalisation et la diffusion de la recherche sur l’économie publique et l’économie sociale et coopérative. Une de ses principales activités est l’animation d’un vaste réseau international de chercheurs dans ces domaines. La collection permet de publier des ouvrages réalisés par les membres de ce réseau, mais est aussi ouverte à des personnes extérieures à ce réseau.

Nobody disputes the modern relevance of Marguerite Yourcenar’s work. Back in 1981, when she was the first woman to be elected to the Académie Française, her work was received enthusiastically, rather deferentially even; there was something of an aura surrounding it with the media attention her election attracted. But this time is now past and more recent research activity has taken a new turn, with critical attention focusing on Yourcenar’s roots in her own century. The study of traditional major themes – death, the sacred, nature, history etc. – has given way to the study of more comparative, theoretical issues such as the relationship between text and images, and more incisive issues such as ecology, gender, political activism etc. And her work seems to expand accordingly, offering up a seemingly inexhaustible supply of subject matter, not only through her novels but also through her novellas, her many essays, plays, letters and so on. The primary objective of the «Yourcenar» series is to publish monographs, collected volumes, conference proceedings and volumes resulting from doctoral research which will give our intended public of academics and Yourcenar devotees a regularly updated idea of the state of the art in the field. Cross-disciplinary approaches are encouraged. The intention is to publish two volumes per year, in either English or French. The collection is directed by Francesca Counihan (Maynooth University) and Bérengère Deprez (Université catholique de Louvain). L’actualité de l’œuvre de Marguerite Yourcenar ne fait aucun doute. Passé un moment de réception enthousiaste et plutôt déférente de ses écrits, auréolés et très médiatisés par son admission comme première femme à l’Académie française en 1981, il semble que la recherche ait pris un virage vers la critique attentive de l’enracinement de l’écrivaine dans son siècle. À l’examen des grands thèmes comme la mort, le sacré, la nature, l’histoire, etc., ont succédé des questions plus comparatistes, plus théoriques telles le rapport texte/image ou plus incisives telles l’écologie, la dimension de genre, l’engagement politique, etc. Et l’œuvre répond présente : la matière semble inépuisable, non seulement les romans mais les nouvelles, les nombreux essais, le théâtre, la correspondance, etc. La collection « Yourcenar » a pour ambition de présenter à un public universitaire académique ou non, ainsi qu’aux nombreux passionnés de l’œuvre de Marguerite Yourcenar, un état des lieux régulier de la recherche, par la publication de monographies, de volumes collectifs, d’actes de colloques et d’essais issus de thèses de doctorat. Confinada durante mucho tiempo al ámbito de las ciencias y técnicas de la ingeniería, con una marcada orientación hacia las cuestiones de normalización, se ha convertido en un campo interdisciplinar en la encrucijada de las ciencias del lenguaje, las ciencias de la información y la comunicación, las ciencias cognitivas y la Inteligencia Artificial. Socioterminología, etnoterminología, ontoterminología, terminología pragmática, terminología diacrónica, terminología cognitiva, terminología empresarial, terminología y divulgación científica, terminología e impacto social de la investigación, etc., son algunas de las muchas denominaciones y/o enfoques que muestran hasta qué punto se exploran hoy en día los términos y las terminologías como "puerta de entrada" a los dominios, la internacionalización, los ámbitos profesionales, el marketing, etc. La colección Terminologías plurales pretende ser un foro de intercambio científico abierto a esta pluralidad de enfoques y está destinada a acoger monografías (sean o no fruto de tesis doctorales o otras) o volúmenes colectivos (incluidas las publicaciones resultantes de congresos, siempre que hayan sido objeto de un trabajo editorial en profundidad que garantice la coherencia del conjunto). Fuertemente comprometida con el multilingüismo de la investigación y de las publicaciones científicas, no se limita al inglés, sino que también acoge manuscritos en alemán, español, francés, italiano y portugués. Long confined to the field of engineering sciences and techniques, with a strong focus on standardization issues, it is now an interdisciplinary field at the crossroads of language sciences, information and communication sciences, cognitive sciences and Artificial Intelligence. Socioterminology, ethnoterminology, ontoterminology, pragmatic terminology, diachronic terminology, cognitive terminology, corporate terminology, terminology and the dissemination of science, terminology and the societal impact of research ... – only to name a few of the many names and/or approaches used to illustrate how terms and terminologies are now being explored as giving access to domains, internationalization, professional fields, marketing, etc ... . The new Plural Terminologies series is intended as a forum for academic exchange, open to this plurality of approaches, and welcomes monographs (including works resulting from doctoral dissertations or habilitations/professoral theses) or collective volumes (including conference proceedings, after a mandatory in-depth editorial work guaranteeing the coherence of the whole). Strongly committed to multilingualism in research and scientific publications, it does not limit itself to English, but also welcomes manuscripts in German, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. La recherche en terminologie connaît depuis trois décennies une diversification sans précédent, tant dans ses objets que dans ses méthodes et réalisations. Longtemps cantonnée au domaine des sciences et techniques de l’ingénieur, avec un focus marqué sur les problématiques de normalisation, elle est aujourd'hui une interdiscipline à la croisée des sciences du langage, des sciences de l’information et de la communication, de sciences cognitives ou encore de l’Intelligence Artificielle. Socioterminologie, ethnoterminologie, ontoterminologie, terminologie pragmatique, diachronique, cognitive, d’entreprise, terminologie et diffusion de la science, terminologie et impact sociétal de la recherche, etc… autant de dénominations et/ou d’approches multiples montrant combien les termes et les terminologies sont aujourd’hui explorés comme "porte d’entrée" vers les domaines, l’internationalisation, les filières professionnelles, le marketing, etc. La collection Terminologies plurielles se veut ainsi un forum d’échanges scientifiques ouvert à cette pluralité d’approches et a vocation à accueillir des monographies (issues ou non de thèses de doctorat ou d’habilitation) ou des volumes collectifs (y compris des publications nées de colloques à la condition sine qua non d’avoir fait l’objet d’un travail éditorial approfondi garantissant une cohérence à l’ensemble). Fortement attachée au plurilinguisme de la recherche et des publications scientifiques, elle ne se limite pas à l’anglais, mais accueille au contraire aussi des manuscrits en allemand, espagnol, français, italien ou encore portuguais.

L'Annuaire suisse de droit ecclésial traite du droit ecclésial sous tous ses aspects, à commencer par la législation respective des Eglises réformée évangélique et catholique romaine et de leurs Eglises cantonales ainsi que de celle des Eglises nationales, c'est-à-dire des lois de l'Etat portant sur la religion et l'Eglise, et étudie en outre des questions relatives au droit religieux qui résultent de l'importance croissante que prennent en Suisse des religions non-chrétiennes. L'Annuaire est destiné à procurer au droit ecclésial, au niveau suisse, un forum permettant aux Eglises cantonales de s'adresserau public d'orientation scientifique, et vice versa, fournissant au droit ecclésial le moyen de mieux se faire entendre du grand public. Le volume 22 conclut la collection. L'Annuaire suisse de droit canonique est publié à partir du volume 23 par le Theologischer Verlag Zürich. L'Annuaire suisse de droit ecclésial est complété par la collection particulière des Cahiers. Das Schweizerische Jahrbuch für Kirchenrecht befasst sich mit der ganzen Breite des Kirchenrechts, angefangen mit dem Recht der evangelisch-reformierten Kirchen sowie der römisch-katholischen Kirche und ihrer Kantonalkirchen, sodann dem Staatskirchenrecht, d.h. denjenigen staatlichen Rechtssätzen, die Religion und Kirche betreffen, und bezieht auch religionsrechtliche Fragestellungen ein, die sich aus der zunehmenden Bedeutung ausserchristlicher Religionen in der Schweiz ergeben. Das Jahrbuch möchte dem Kirchenrecht in der Schweiz ein Forum schaffen, das als Vermittler sowohl von den Kantonalkirchen zur wissenschaftlichen Öffentlichkeit als auch in umgekehrter Richtung wirken kann, und auf diese Weise dem Kirchenrecht in der Öffentlichkeit eine besser hörbare Stimme verleihen. Estudos Germânicos

Estudos Germânicos is the publishing project of the Núcleo de Estudos de Línguas e Culturas Germânicas at the Universidade de Brasília, which promotes awareness of Germanic Studies in Brazil and throughout the world. The book series provides a forum for Brazilian and Portuguese-language scholarship on Germanic languages, literatures and cultures. A broader understanding of Germanic is encouraged, including research not only on German and Austrian but also on Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Afrikaans. The series is not limited to any particular field within literary studies, linguistics or translation studies and invites scholarship from the fields of anthropology, sociology, music, film studies and philosophy. An area of particular emphasis is the analysis of translations of all types of texts (literary, philosophical, sociological, etc.) both from and into the languages in question and their impact and distribution in the respective target cultures. This focal interest also implies that translations of scholarly works will be considered for publication. The primary language of the series is Portuguese, but publications in other languages will be considered. Proposals for both monographs and edited collections are welcome.
