European Connections

European Connections: Studies in Comparative Literature, Intermediality and Aesthetics is a peer-reviewed series that publishes innovative research monographs, edited volumes as well as translations of key theoretical works. The series focuses on the literary and artistic relations that have shaped and continue to shape European cultures across national, linguistic and media boundaries, leading to vibrant new forms of artistic creation and aesthetic expression. It also wishes to explore relations with non-European cultures with a view to fostering more equitable models of cultural exchange and transfer. The series promotes comparative, intermedial and interdisciplinary approaches, whether studies of specific writers, filmmakers and artists; critical re-evaluations of historical periods (from the medieval to the ultra-contemporary) and movements; or wider theoretical reflections within the fields of comparative literature, intermediality studies and aesthetics. In light of the urgent need to revitalize the idea of Europe along new lines of thought, the series encourages research that explores the rich connections within European artistic and cultural production as well as the participation of European cultures in what the great philosopher of relation Édouard Glissant has called the Tout-monde. "Die Reihe Lateinische Sprache und Literatur des Mittelalters wurde 1974 von Alf Önnerfors begründet und seit 1993 von Peter Stotz herausgegeben. 2017 haben Carmen Cardelle de Hartmann und Peter Orth die Herausgeberschaft übernommen. Publiziert werden qualitativ hochstehende wissenschaftliche Arbeiten aus verschiedenen Bereichen der Lateinischen Philologie des Mittelalters. Im Vordergrund steht die Bearbeitung einzelner Texte und Textgruppen durch Editionen, Kommentare oder textkritische Untersuchungen. Doch steht die Reihe auch thematisch ausgerichteten Studien und übergreifenden Darstellungen offen. Sie bietet Raum für Erstlingsarbeiten von Jungakademikern sowie für gesammelte Abhandlungen renommierter Gelehrter oder Kongressakten."

Cultural Identity Studies

This series publishes new research into relationships and interactions between culture and identity, broadly conceived. Studies relating to intercultural or transcultural identities are particularly welcome, as the series is the publishing project of the Intercultural Studies research group at Dalarna University, Sweden. The series embraces research into the roles of linguistic, social, political, psychological, literary, audiovisual, religious and/or cultural aspects in the processes of individual and collective identity formation. Given the nature of the field, interdisciplinary and theoretically diverse approaches are encouraged. Work on the theorizing of cultural aspects of identity formation and case studies of individual writers, thinkers and/or cultural products will be included. The series welcomes intercultural, transcultural and transnational links and comparisons worldwide.

European Semiotics originated from an initiative launched by a group of researchers in Semiotics from Denmark, Germany, Spain, France and Italy and was inspired by innovative impulses given by René Thom and his «semiophysics». The goal of the series is to provide a broad European forum for those interested in semiotic research focusing on semiotic dynamics and combining cultural, linguistic and cognitive perspectives. This approach, which has its origins in Phenomenology, Gestalt Theory, Philosophy of Culture and Structuralism, views semiosis primarily as a cognitive process, which underlies and structures human culture. Semiotics is therefore considered to be the discipline suited par excellence to bridge the gap between the realms of the Cognitive Sciences and the Sciences of Culture. The series publishes monographs, collected papers and conference proceedings of a high scholarly standard. Languages of publication are mainly English and French. Sémiotiques européennes est le résultat d'une initiative prise par un groupe de chercheurs en sémiotique, originaires du Danemark, d'Allemagne, d'Espagne, de France et d'Italie, inspirée par l'impulsion innovatrice apportée par René Thom et sa «sémiophysique». Le but de cette collection est de fournir une large tribune européenne à tous ceux qui s'intéressent à la recherche sémiotique portant sur les dynamiques sémiotiques, et réunissant des perspectives culturelles, linguistiques et cognitives. Cette approche, qui se nourrit de différentes sources, telle que la phénoménologie, le gestaltisme, la philosophie de la culture et le structuralisme, part du principe que la sémiosis est essentiellement un procès cognitif, qui sous-tend et structure toute culture humaine. La sémiotique est donc considérée comme la discipline par excellence capable de créer un pont entre les domaines des Sciences cognitives et ceux des Sciences de la culture. Sémiotiques européennes accueille tant des monographies que des anthologies et des actes de colloques d'un haut niveau de recherche, rédigé de préférence en anglais et en français.

Romanticism and after in France is a series designed to publish research monographs or longer works of high quality whether by established scholars or recent graduates, dealing with French literature in the period from pre-Romanticism to the turn of the twentieth century. Books may be in English or French, and may consist of studies of single authors or of wider topics. All submissions will be assessed by experts before acceptance. Le Romantisme et après en France est une collection dont le but est de publier des monographies ou des ouvrages de plus longue haleine, que ce soit des enseignants chevronnés ou de jeunes chercheurs. Ces livres traiteront de la littérature française depuis la période préromantique jusqu'aux premières années du vingtième siècle, et pourront être en anglais ou en français; ils pourront traiter d'un seul auteur ou d'un sujet plus étendu. Toute proposition sera évaluée par un comité d'experts.

Souvent présenté sous le seul angle de l’’européanisation de l’’Amérique, ce lien historique – imaginaire tout autant que matériel – s’’avère, en réalité, infiniment plus complexe et comprend également de nombreux « effets retours » de l’’Amérique vers l’’Europe. Cette collection vise donc à explorer, dans une perspective pluridisciplinaire et sans négliger les possibles détours que purent connaître les échanges euro-américains, les multiples phénomènes de circulation unissant ces deux rives de l’’Atlantique du début de la période coloniale jusqu’’au XXIe siècle. The work of Marguerite Duras has become one of the most popular subjects of academic research, achieving enormous global reach. Her work crosses many genres (novels, theatre, films, journalism, interviews, short texts), and she attracted the interest of important contemporary thinkers such as Lacan, Foucault and Blanchot. The aim of this book series is to study the various aspects of risk linked to human activities. Scientific and technological development is changing our society fundamentally and the concept of risk is crucial for the analysis of the ongoing social transformation process. Progress in genetic engineering and the use of military technology by civilians, for instance, raise questions concerning ethical, political, environmental and public-health issues. This series, therefore, opts for a multidisciplinary approach to the problem of risk, which involves the scientific community as much as the political world and civil society. It publishes monographs and collected papers, mainly in French or English. Cette collection a pour principal objectif de traiter les différents aspects de la problématique des risques associés aux activités humaines. Parmi celles-ci, le développement scientifique, technologique et économique s’impose de plus en plus comme un moteur fondamental du changement social. Dans cette perspective, le concept de risque se révèle un outil pertinent d’analyse des processus de transformation sociale. À titre d’exemple, les recherches en génie génétique, de même que l’utilisation civile de technologie militaire, soulèvent inévitablement des questions d’éthique, de santé publique, d’environnement et de gestion des politiques publiques. Il est dès lors souhaitable d’envisager la problématique des risques à la lumière d’une approche multidisciplinaire qui mobilise tant la communauté scientifique que le monde politique et économique, voire même la société civile. The series, directed by Claudio Gigante and Dirk Vanden Berghe, contains texts and essays on Italian literature of the nineteenth century, understood here in its widest chronological extension, from the first Napoleonic campaign until the end of the first World War; which represents as well the period in which the Risorgimento was fulfilled. The extent of the social and cultural changes that took place in the course of the nineteenth century was such as to influence the whole «Short Century» that would have immediately followed. For this reason, the Italian literary production of such a crucial phase in modern history deserves to be the subject of a specific series of studies, open to different methodological approaches but with a focus on research carried out directly on the texts. Contributions are welcome in Italian and in major European languages. All the volumes in the series «Il secolo lungo» are subject to a double blind peer review. La collana, diretta da Claudio Gigante e Dirk Vanden Berghe, ospita testi e saggi dedicati alla letteratura italiana del secolo XIX, inteso qui nella sua massima estensione cronologica, dalla prima campagna napoleonica alla fine della Grande Guerra: che rappresenta anche il periodo in cui si compì la parabola del Risorgimento. L'entità dei mutamenti sociali e culturali avveratisi nel corso dell'Ottocento fu tale da condizionare l'intero «secolo breve» che gli avrebbe immediatamente fatto seguito. Anche per questo, la produzione letteraria italiana di una fase così cruciale della storia moderna merita di essere l'oggetto di una collana di studi specifica, aperta ad approcci metodologici diversi ma con un'attenzione particolare alle ricerche eseguite direttamente sui testi. Verranno accolti contributi in italiano e nelle principali lingue europee. Ogni volume della collana «Il secolo lungo» è stato sottoposto a una doppia revisione paritaria anonima. La collection, dirigée par Claudio Gigante et Dirk Vanden Berghe, rassemble textes et études consacrés à la littérature italienne du XIXe siècle, période considérée ici dans sa plus ample extension chronologique, de la première campagne napoléonienne en Italie à la fin de la Grande Guerre ; ce qui en réalité coïncide avec l’ère du Risorgimento. Les profonds changements sociaux et culturels qui se sont produits au cours du XIXe siècle ont fortement influencé le « court XXe siècle ». Pour cette raison, la production littéraire italienne d’une période décisive de l’histoire moderne mérite d’être l’objet d’une série spécifique de travaux de recherche, ouverte aux approches méthodologiques différenciées mais axée principalement sur une lecture rapprochée du texte littéraire. La collection accueille des travaux en italien et dans les principales langues européennes. Die Reihe nimmt Werke, insbesondere anspruchsvolle Dissertationen, auf, die rechtsvergleichende Themen, vornehmlich des Zivilrechts in seiner ganzen Spannweite, vor allem aber des internationalen Privatrechts und des internationalen Zivilverfahrensrechts untersuchen. Ein Schwerpunkt liegt im Kollisionsrecht. Auch völkerrechtliche Veröffentlichungen, die einen engeren Bezug zum Zivil- und Verfahrensrecht haben, fallen in das Publikationsprofil der Schriftenreihe.

Beiträge zur Literatur- und Mediendidaktik

Die 2001 von Bodo Lecke begründete und von Christian Dawidowski und Irene Pieper herausgegebene Buchreihe versammelt aktuelle Beiträge zur Literatur- und Mediendidaktik in Form von Monographien oder Sammelbänden. Schwerpunkte liegen in der didaktischen Theoriebildung, der Vorstellung und Diskussion empirischer Untersuchungen und dem interkulturellen und transkulturellen Literatur- und Medienunterricht. Die Reihe versteht sich auch als Forum für Arbeiten, die der intermedialen Verbindung bzw. Integration von fachunterrichtlich orientierter Literaturdidaktik und fachübergreifender Medienpädagogik und Medienerziehung gelten. Darüber hinaus finden fachgeschichtlich gewachsene Traditionen Berücksichtigung.
